Position Overview

The Conference and Event Management Team within the Ancillary Services is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Events Services Attendant.

Reporting to the Manager, Conference and Events, this position coordinates the movement of furnishings for events spaces located on the main University of Calgary campus. This position will work varied hours during regular University business hours, weekends, holidays and off peak hours. The Events Services Attendant provides the delivery of furniture and other services as per the clients request all across the main University campus in timely manner.

This position is required to perform a variety of duties with a high degree of accuracy. Effective communication skills are essential with fellow team members and clients across campus. The unit operates on team-based principles. This is a full time position that requires a high level of responsibility and an eye for detail. Each day will present a new challenge and test your multi-tasking skills.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Delivery of furniture, namely tables and chairs to locations on the main university campus
  • Able to handle the loading and unloading of furniture from building of origin to the new designated destination
  • Responsible for assisting the client in moving things to the appropriate places around the University main campus spaces
  • Maintain inventory levels of all furniture and track the movement of all items
  • Plan and coordinate all drop offs and pickups for all requests
  • Maintain all equipment and ensure it is in good working condition
  • Assist the Conference & Event Management facilities team with set ups, tear downs and cleaning of event spaces as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade XII
  • Must successfully complete First Aid and WHMIS
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license (Non GDL -Graduated Driver’s License) is required
  • Previous experience in shipping and receiving operations would be an asset
  • Experience in banquets, meetings, special events, and conference set ups is an asset
  • Applicant must have excellent people skills while dealing with clients and other staff members
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills  
  • Must be able to lift up to 75lbs – this may require lifting things up/down stairways
  • Clean drivers abstract
  • Intermediate skills in working with Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to address priorities and handle a number of tasks simultaneously
  • An understanding of the university and it’s organizational structure is an asset
  • A strong attention to detail
