Position Overview

The Financial Reporting Team within Finance is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Senior Analyst, Internal Control.

The Senior Analyst, Internal Control reports to the Associate Director, Internal Control & Compliance Reporting.  This position requires a high level of discretionary decision making and judgement, the ability to identify creative solutions to problems, a significant level of technical knowledge and strong relationship-building skills.

This position works directly with senior leadership in administrative business functions including but not limited to Finance, Human Resources and Information Technologies, as well as with internal and external auditors, as required.  The incumbent will be of primary involvement in ensuring that the University meets it's administrative objectives and satisfies external audit stakeholders.  It impacts university-wide financial and operational processes decisions, the University's standing with external auditing agencies and how services are delivered to academics and researchers insofar as business objectives are tied to these groups.

The Senior Analyst, Internal Control will impact how systems are designed and modified.  The position is the primary point of contact for several significant client groups including but not limited to SCM, Financial Services, Financial Operations, Treasury, External Financial Reporting, Internal Reporting, Asset Management, and other key stakeholders within the University.  This position will have significant discretion in how they discharge their accountabilities.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Support business process owners in the alignment of their business objectives with their processes
  • Support business process owners in the identification of financial and operational risks and the alignment of internal controls (controls as designed) to mitigate those risks
  • Ensuring business process owners understand their key financial and operational controls and that they modify these as risks change
  • Provisioning of a documentation standard, for processes and controls, and custodianship over existing documentation, that meets external audit standards
  • Provisioning of feedback reporting and other mechanisms to process owners over the operating effectiveness of key controls
  • Ensuring the University is compliant with external control documentation and monitoring controls standards
  • Provide business analysis support in system enhancement projects to Business Process Owners and Financial Systems Analysts during requirement gathering and solution design

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) with a minimum of 5 years post-designation of progressive experience
  • Strong experience in documenting business processes and process improvement is required
  • Experience with Hyperion Budgeting system is a strong asset
