Position Overview

The Sports Medicine Centre in the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Part-time Regular Billing Coordinator.

The Sport Medicine Centre is an integrated and multidisciplinary clinical, education and research facility within the Faculty of Kinesiology, specializing in the treatment and rehabilitation of sport related and other musculoskeletal injuries. The Sport Medicine Centre provides comprehensive sport medicine, surgical, physiotherapy, and other health care services to Olympic, professional and amateur athletes; recreationalists and other patients referred to us through the health care system in Calgary and southern Alberta.

This position reports directly to the Manager, Sport Medicine Centre and is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit. The normal shift schedule is 28 hours per week from 07:30 to 15:30. The requirement for overtime is rare. This position is responsible for management of all clinical billing and accounts receivables for the Sport Medicine Centre. Excellent time management and organizational skills are required to effectively balance the multi-tasking nature and requirements of the job. Very good interpersonal and communication skills are required to interact with co-workers, other University staff and outside agencies. This position requires successful adaptation to variations in schedules and work assignments.

The incumbent processes daily, weekly and monthly scheduled account receivable transactions for Sport Medicine Centre for a variety of stakeholders including physicians, physiotherapists, WCB, Alberta Health & Wellness (AHW), Insurance Companies. As necessary, addresses all relevant billing concerns and problems related to AHW, WCB, patient and third party agency claims from clients and the Manager, Sport Medicine Centre, identifies the possible cause and defines a solution.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Major billing transactions, checks accuracy of daily medical billing
  • Prints invoices for WCB, patient and third parties
  • Sends electronic submissions to AHC
  • Inputs physician hospital billing
  • Enters WCB billing electronically for physicians and physiotherapists Submits daily invoices to appropriate third party agencies and patients Reconciles AHW, WCB, patient and third party cheques on a daily basis for clinic and physicians
  • Prepares and enters 2nd deposit into PeopleSoft
  • Corrects and rebills refused claims from AHW
  • Bills insurance companies for MVA (physiotherapy) monthly
  • Prepares monthly rental statements for the physicians, athletic therapy, nutritionists & massage therapy
  • Compiles and prepares accurate and concise financial information for each physician's year end statement

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of a level of education equivalent to Grade 12
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with Alberta Health Care billing
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting skills and Alberta Health & Wellness billing rules and regulations is a definite asset
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently identify and analyze transactional issues
  • Attention to details and high level of accuracy
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to meet work requirements within established timelines
  • Strong working knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Communicate effectively with all level of leadership and staff
