Position Overview

The Application and Web Services in the Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Regular SharePoint Analyst.

This position is within the Applications and Web Services portfolio in Information Technologies, reporting to the Associate Director, Applications and Web Services.  The team is responsible for the development and sustainment support of template based and customized SharePoint solutions.

The nature of the job requires well-rounded knowledge of all aspects of MicroSoft SharePoint architecture and toolsets.  This work includes gathering business requirements, validating those requirements against existing and customized SharePoint functionality, developing technical design specifications, provisioning of template based solutions, developing custom SharePoint forms and workflows, developing interfaces, and enhancements to existing solutions.

This work includes the complete software development process and toolsets. This work includes technical analysis, developing technical design specifications, development of custom solutions, interfaces, conversions and enhancements.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Requirements Gathering/Technical Design and Development

  • Provide analysis, technical guidance and approaches to automating and/or enhancing business processes by leveraging SharePoint capabilities
  • Execute day-to-day operations of the Enterprise Collaboration Service including :
    • Providing technical support to the business community
    • Provisioning of new SharePoint sites
    • Elicit and document functional requirements from stakeholders; mapping the requirements to out of the box SharePoint feature set
    • Provide solution consulting services to business customers regarding best practices in the use of SharePoint
    • Promote the use of SharePoint throughout the enterprise, effecting good user adoption
    • Conduct informational demonstrations on SharePoint automation, capabilities, features and functionality, and write technical white papers based on identified needs.
    • Establishment and active participation in SharePoint user group to promote sharing of technical capabilities within the user community
    • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, IT Business Partners and technical staff
    • Present integrity, initiative, coordination, facilitation, communication and accountability in all interactions
    • Proactively investigate new feature sets within the SharePoint product offering and emerging technologies
    • Collaborate with non-SharePoint teams to design and build solutions

System Support, Release Management and Problem Resolution

  • Provide functional and technical support to help identify and resolve hardware, software and data related problems
  • Provide the release setup and configurations for custom objects that are migrating with the overall solution
  • Delays and other changes to the analytical and development build scheduled as early as possible and communicated to the Associate Director, Applications and Web Services
  • System performance issues are communicated and jointly resolved with the technical DBA's.
  • Ensure documentation is properly initiated, authorized and maintained.

Functional and Usability Testing

  • All solutions are adequately tested according to test plan documentation

Quality Management

  • Deliverable reviews and sign-offs are obtained on a timely basis.  These include:
    • Requirements documentation
    • Requirements Matrix walkthrough
    • Solution Walkthrough
    • Test Plan Review
    • Security Reviews
    • Quality control reviews are conducted for each custom object

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary undergraduate degree required
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience creating and maintaining SharePoint sites, page lists, libraries and document sets
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience analysing, designing, and delivering SharePoint solutions based primarily in out-of-the-box (OOTB) functionality, designing/delivering customized InfoPath forms and workflows
  • Minimum 2 years managing permissions at the site collection, subsite, list/library and item/document levels
  • Strong ability to leverage OOTB features and functionality
  • A sound understanding of SharePoint features and associated uses, and web parts including search, content organizer and rules, and content query web parts
  • Ability to self-direct SharePoint projects from conception through to completion within established deadlines
  • Experience implementing and promoting best practices in SharePoint content management and taxonomy is highly desired
  • Experience working with content types
  • Experience working with end/power users to support the integration of SharePoint into day-to-day business functions
  • Highly professional team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with business and IT professionals at all levels
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications
  • Experience working collaboratively with other developers, technical analysts, business and operational staff
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills. Proven abilities in resolving problems quickly and efficiently sometimes under pressure
  • Proficient in the use of Project Management, requirements analysis, technical design, development and testing techniques and tools
  • ITIL and/or PM certification an asset

Technology specific qualifications include:

  • Well-rounded knowledge of all aspects of the Microsoft SharePoint architecture from both a technical and functional perspective
  • Well-rounded knowledge including elicitation, solution design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and support
  • Experience using InfoPath forms
  • Familiar with software development methodologies, usability best practices, prototyping, testing frameworks, and basic project management principles
  • Experience using development frameworks and methods, such as JavaScript Frameworks, and other leading web technologies
  • Experience with database management software, preferably Microsoft SQL Server
  • The position must also demonstrate the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks of varying complexity, ability to work autonomously and under pressure, as required
  • This position requires a general knowledge of the culture and operating procedures of the university
