Position Overview

The University of Calgary opened its first overseas branch campus with generous financial support from the State of Qatar and began delivering undergraduate nursing programs in 2007. Student enrolment has steadily increased during the years, and now the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) offers several nursing education streams which are growing the professional nursing practice in the region.

We are currently seeking a Student Services Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is open to learning and experiencing new cultures and can thrive in a dynamic team environment.

This competition is open to all qualified and experienced Canadian nationals.  The successful applicant must relocate to Doha, Qatar by start of January 2018. This is a 2 year contract renewable upon mutual agreement.

Position Description

The Student Services Officer has a diverse range of responsibilities related to all aspects of prospective and continuing students at UCQ.  This includes recruitment and admission of prospective students, academic program advising for continuing students, planning and participating in various student life activities and meeting with parents & feeder institutions. It also includes responsibilities for maintaining computerized student records (working with the Student Services Support staff) and producing enrolment and admission reports from that system (PeopleSoft training will be provided).
Qualifications/Expertise Required:
  • University degree and experience in an area of student services, or prior admissions experience.
  • Experience with international admissions, and an ability to accurately assess academic credentials from outside North America, in consultation with international admissions staff at the Calgary Campus.
  • Experience advising both graduate and undergraduate programs would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with a variety of software, including the Microsoft Office suite, document management, and willing to learn the PeopleSoft Student Information System.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and attitude.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and the maturity to work in an every changing environment.
  • Ability to work productively in a framework of operations that fully respects the laws, culture and religion of Qatar.
  • Possesses an in-depth knowledge of admission criteria and evaluates credentials presented for admission and advanced credits.
  • Processes applications for admissions with the utmost accuracy and timeliness ensuring all applicants are treated fairly.
  • Keeps informed regarding academic regulations, program requirements, enrollment restrictions and other issues related to recruiting, admitting, registering and advising students.
  • Interprets admissions policies and academic regulations. Advises students on matters related to course registration and program planning.
  • Uses discretion and tact when advising students to avoid misunderstandings or difficult encounters.
  • Contributes input and feedback to the Director of Student Services to help with the UCQ’s enrolment management initiatives.
  • Fosters cooperative and trusting relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff to help ensure a seamless and efficient admission and advising process.
  • Actively contributes to providing a high quality student-centered admissions, advising and campus environment for students.
