Position Overview

Development & Alumni Engagement is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Development Advisor, Haskayne School of Business for approximately 2 years.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Development, Haskayne School of Business, the Development Advisor works closely with the Associate Director, other members of the Development & Alumni Engagement team, and internal and external stakeholders. The Development Advisor is involved in a variety of high-level planning activities for the faculty, will access highly sensitive and confidential information, and interacts with key external stakeholders including donors, alumni and community leaders. The impact of decisions made by this position will be Faculty and possibly, University-wide.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • In consultation with the Associate Director of Development, set and achieve annual and campaign fundraising targets and other fundraising metrics; establish these targets and metrics through effective coordination and management of fundraising strategies for top prospective donors for the Haskayne School of Business Development and Alumni Engagement team
  • Identify and meet with prospective donors face to face for the purposes of qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding in the range of $5,000 - $50,000
  • Work with the central Development and Alumni Engagement team to integrate and coordinate Haskayne School of Business fundraising planning and execution with that of the University as a whole, including annual giving and memorial giving
  • Utilize donor research and prepare comprehensive briefings and donor profiles, in support of prospect identification and cultivation, and securing major donations to the school
  • Generate strong written communication, including gift proposals, meeting briefs, gift documentation, presentations and collateral materials
  • Create sound, detailed gift documentation including terms of reference, gift agreements and donor stewardship reports
  • Manage donor records via Raiser's Edge
  • Build donor relationships; develop stewardship and cultivation plans
  • Recruit, train and motivate volunteers
  • Engage faculty in fundraising initiatives
  • Develop sponsorship strategies and solicit support for key faculty events and programs
  • Practice ethical fundraising in keeping with the University's mission and values and in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency charitable giving standards

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A University degree is required, preferably in Business, Communications or other related field with a minimum of 3-5 years of work experience directly related development or fundraising experience
  • Previous experience working within the non-profit sector, alumni relations, a post-secondary educational setting or a large, complex organization is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in face-to-face solicitation and closing gifts is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and excellent listening skills
  • Must be able to secure meetings and meet confidently one-on-one with individuals and organizations for the purpose of advancing gift requests
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work effectively in a large, complex, dynamic and sophisticated organization
  • Demonstrated respect for confidentiality and strong sense of professional ethics
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, energetic and goal oriented
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects or priorities simultaneously; strong organization and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership through proven ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Ability to make accurate complex mathematical and statistical computations with speed and accuracy
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge fundraising software an asset
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications is essential
