Position Overview

The Admissions Office in Student and Enrolment Services is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief International Admissions Officer for approximately 12 months.

The International Admissions Officer supports our international admission efforts and reviews and evaluates international academic credentials for the purposes of determining admissibility, transfer credit, and advanced standing to all undergraduate programs. This position has the authority to  admit those applicants to faculties/programs who are determined to be appropriately qualified. This role is a front line contact for prospective international students and applicants who may be unfamiliar with our admission requirements and processes. This role also supports admission of open studies students. This position directly supports the academic priority of internationalization as outlined in the University's Academic Plan.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of calendar admission criteria for all faculties and their various programs
  • Qualified applicants with international credentials are admitted in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with the admission criteria and competitive standards established by the university and faculties
  • Provides extensive knowledge in international application procedures, and can advise team or applicants on procedural inquiries prior to applying
  • Applicants are accurately informed of the admission requirements and the supporting documents/transcripts that are required to facilitate assessment of their educational credentials
  • Uses expertise to support other departments such as Enrolment Services, University of Calgary Qatar, Werklund School of Education, Continuing Education, and the Centre for International Students and Studies Abroad (CISSA)
  • Judgment is exercised in individual circumstances based on merit, while ensuring the integrity of the program and criteria
  • Supports the international admissions process through the processing and handling of applications, transcripts and other documents
  • Recommends any changes to procedures or operational practices that may be of benefit to the organization to the Assistant Registrar and Associate Registrar
  • Collaborative relationships on campus are fostered and maintained

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited/recognized institution and/or previous related experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of software including PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Microdea document management, and to operate in a highly automated, paperless environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and maintains high quality and consistency of work
  • Effective interpersonal skills with sensitivity to race, ethnicity, religion and culture and ability to convey information with diplomacy and tact
  • Strong professional communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to be decisive while simultaneously working with a level of ambiguity
  • Embraces opportunity to work with applicants from diverse educational backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure, deadline focused, team based environment
  • Willing to be cross-trained and to assist other departments across Enrolment Services in peak periods
  • Ability to embrace change in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work in a confidential setting and demonstrate good judgment in dealing with sensitive or problem situations
  • Ability to work overtime during peak periods
