Traffic Officer, Lead, Parking and Transportation, Ancillary Services

Position Overview

The Department of Parking and Transportation within Ancillary Services is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Traffic Officer, Lead.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Parking and Transportation Services, this position is a working enforcement officer but will also be considered a resource for the enforcement team. The Traffic Officer, Lead is a full enforcement officer but also directs and oversees the other members of the team, providing an environment that supports the University culture and goals.  Operationally, this position oversees all aspects of the day-to-day activities of the enforcement team, ensuring equipment and tools required by staff are available and in good working order. 

The parking operation is a 14 hour per day operation and this position may be required to adjust their workday to various shifts to allow for full understanding and oversight of the work being performed.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Lead a team of 6-8 enforcement staff, establishing their daily routines and directing their work efforts appropriately
  • Be the mentor to other staff in this area, setting example of professionalism and teamwork
  • Motivate team to produce consistent, high quality work consistent with the enforcement role within the department
  • Provide changes to procedures and practices for existing staff. Provide full training to new staff including all aspects of the daily work and setting the attitude and tone required for this service
  • Provide leadership to other team members on the de-escalation of conflict situations
  • Understanding of University culture is a critical part of position so that appropriate consideration and judgements are reviewed prior to changes being implemented
  • Analyze data for reporting that subsequently effects operational decisions and informs policies
  • Work with contractors and vendors in a professional manner
  • Active enforcement officer responsible for application of parking regulation to the campus as part of the daily staff complement
  • Organize the ongoing operation of enforcement area including staff scheduling, ticket issuance, fleet maintenance and specialized event setup
  • Must be able to recognize issues, contact and collaborate with any additional resources to provide changes or updates to procedures
  • Handle customer complaints and investigate root cause issues
  • Work in conjunction with the Team Lead for Parking Customer Service, provide immediate information and decisions to the enforcement staff. This includes many complex issues that require judgement and timely resolutions
  • Initiate change and solutions to issues as they arise within the enforcement process
  • Oversee the work done by other enforcement team members to ensure consistency and fair application of the parking regulations and policies

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Proven customer service skills in a complex service environment
  • The ability to share knowledge and work flow with team members
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are a necessity
  • Must be able to walk parking lots for extended periods and perform light –medium strenuous physical activities
  • 3-4 years parking or security industry knowledge or relevant post-secondary education would be an asset
