Position Overview

The Department of Cardiac Science in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Epidemiologist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 18 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Position reports to the Principal Investigator.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Lead report writing, production of research papers suitable for publication, and collaborate on knowledge translation activities

  • Coordinate and conduct research activities of research studies in consultation with the principal investigator(s) and project research associates

  • Along with research team, develop and implement the strategic vision of the research project(s) and research group

  • Monitor and report on cardiovascular risk factors and disease

  • Design interventions to prevent their occurrence in the population

  • Assist in identifying the gaps and priorities through the analysis of data to help understand and explore root causes

  • Under limited supervision, responsible for performing a range of research tasks in support of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute objectives

  • Ensure stakeholders are kept informed of the study’s progression

  • Lead applications (e.g., ethics, grants) under the direction of the principal investigator(s)

  • Lead development of research protocols with the research team

  • Provide general support to the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. Activities include research center space management, support for event planning, and contributions to the overall collaborative environment

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master degree or PhD, with training in epidemiology and/or health services research

  • Advanced training in other healthcare fields, such as, nursing, psychology, or sociology would also be considered

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with a research group

  • Experience writing research proposals and grant applications

  • Established record of manuscript publications

  • Knowledge and/or experience with cardiovascular health is an asset

  • Strong written and oral skills for use in the development of oral presentations, summaries, reports, journal articles, systematic literature reviews and manuscripts, etc

  • Effective communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills ,and interpersonal skills required

  • Good judgment and concern for detail and accuracy

  • Ability to lead and receive direction, collaborate with others in setting goals, and work effectively in teams to achieve agreed upon goals

  • Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork through mentorship and sharing knowledge

  • Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy dealing with patients, staff, and physicians

  • Ability to communicate at a high level of professionalism with colleagues from various disciplines and external collaborators on complex initiatives

  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of patient health data

  • Experience in literature reviews and synthesis of large amounts of information and writing scientific publications are required

  • Must have the ability to set deadlines, maintain team momentum, and produce research products such as grants, manuscripts, abstracts, presentations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and collaborative personality, to successfully interact with trainees, colleagues, collaborators, and faculty members is required

  • Computer skills
