Technical Designer, Continuing Medical Education, Cumming School of Medicine

Position Overview

The Department of Continuing Education in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Technical Designer. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Director, Continuing Medical Education and will work closely with Education Consultant, Innovation portfolio, CME team, and instructors to provide professional support of educational design with instructional technologies. Due to the dynamic nature of course and program deliveries, there will be variable hours assigned.

The Office of CME develops over 50 courses & program per academic year to serve the educational requirements for approximately 5,800 physicians and other health care professionals annually.

 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Conceive, develop, and adapt original creative concepts in collaboration with CME Office needs
  • Prepare and edit web-based written, audio and video materials with the guidance of education consultant and subject matter experts
  • Assist in hosting webinar sessions supporting client access and speaker presentation
  • Consult CME Office to assess e-delivery of programming needs and provide solutions, including webcast of face-to-face events
  • Maintain CME Office and program handouts, website such as updating program and session information, managing the Q&A between program participants and speakers
  • Build online surveys and managing survey responses for needs assessment, program/session evaluation, follow-up reflective survey, etc
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and issues in e-Learning, adult education and learning design

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum, Adult Education, or Learning Technologies. Or a combination of equivalent education and work experience in e-learning technologies, instructional design tools and learning management system
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with core learning platforms: Word-Press based LMS, Drupal-based CMS, Adobe Connect Meeting, Desire2Learn
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with graphic programs: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong technical writing/editing and creative design skills
  • Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills displaying professionalism, tact and diplomacy
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS an asset
  • Awareness of adult learning and the context of continuing medical education, an asset
