The Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Tenured Associate Professor in the area of Landscape Architecture. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2018.

The successful candidate will contribute to design studio teaching, engage in design-based research and participate in local and global issues related to urban design, regional planning, cultural landscapes, climate change adaptation, resilience, and water resources in the unique regional context of Calgary, Alberta and Western Canada.  The successful candidate will assist in shaping the development of the Master of Landscape Architecture program, and contribute to the Master of Architecture and Master of Planning programs (where possible), and will be expected to supervise students in the Faculty’s research-based degree programs (Master of Environmental Design and PhD in Environmental Design).

We are looking for an experienced colleague to join us as we continue to build our new Master of Landscape Architecture degree program. You are passionate about the profession of landscape architecture, committed to excellence in teaching, and have professional practice experience. You also have a research agenda that you would like to advance within our interdisciplinary academic setting.

The successful candidate must possess a terminal degree in Landscape Architecture and demonstrate significant professional practice within the area of Landscape Architecture. A PhD (completed or in progress) in Landscape Architecture or a related discipline would be a definite asset. Applicants should have membership in the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) or equivalent professional landscape architecture organization or be eligible and interested in pursuing membership.

Applicants at the Assistant Professor level must present evidence of high quality professional practice and a clear academic research program, and evidence of previous teaching experience.

Applicants at the Associate Professor level must, in addition to the qualifications listed above, provide evidence of an established research program, a strong publication record, evidence of successful teaching, and evidence of established academic engagement in professional and other communities.

The Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS) was founded on an overarching commitment to the integration of design, ecology, and culture in the making and managing of human and bio-social environments. EVDS was established in 1971, and over the past four decades, has provided an interdisciplinary approach to professional education and graduate research. In 2015, EVDS launched the MLA, the first graduate program in landscape architecture in Canada since 1980. We have the first two years of the curriculum in place, and will be rolling out the final year in 2017-18. It joins our Master of Architecture and Master of Planning to form a strong inter-related triad of graduate professional programs. Please visit our website (http://evds.ucalgary.ca/) for more information on our degree programs and faculty research, as well as our professional and community engagement activities.

Applications should include a letter of interest, current curriculum vitae, examples of recent or current scholarly and/or professional work, design examples and the names and contact information of three references.  Please send applications to:
