Facilities Attendant, Continuing Education

Position Overview

Central Services in Continuing Education is currently seeking a  Recurring Part-time Facilities Attendant.

Reporting to the Manager of Business Operations and Student Services, the purpose of this position is to provide administrative and basic technology support to evening instructors at the Main and Downtown Campus, and to set-up classrooms for seminars the following day. Facility Attendants will ensure the classrooms and computer labs are setup appropriately and that cleanliness is assured prior to course section start times, provide access and way-finding assistance to students and instructors, and provide administrative support to instructors as required, i.e. photocopying. Preparation of rooms for the next-days sessions is also required of this position.

Hours of Work:

Typically required the second week of January to the end of June, and the second week of September to the second week of December (dependent on operational requirements)

Required to work part time Monday-Thursday, 5.0 hour shift, 16:30 to 22:30 on main campus and at DTC and/or Saturday, 8.0 - 8.5 hour shift, 07:30 to 17:00 on main campus and 08:00 to 17:00 at DTC

Rotation of shifts is shared between Facilities Attendants at the Seminar Centre and the Downtown Campus

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Provide basic technical support to instructors, i.e orient them to the systems in place and troubleshoot computer problems
  • Orient instructors to the main campus and downtown campus facilities
  • Make last minute room changes at class start times
  • Ensure rooms are clean prior to start (note: the DTC cleaning staff does most of this but occasionally it is missed)
  • Provide assistance to instructors with course materials and supplies as required, (i.e last minute photocopying)
  • Deliver course materials and supplies to the classrooms as needed
  • Respond to requests for last minute emergencies
  • Help to direct students and instructors to classrooms as needed
  • Set up rooms for classes the next day based on enrollment counts, learning requirements and instructor requests (i.e U-shape or pod set-up, flip charts, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned (clean whiteboards, return speakers and CPU remotes to the drop box, ensure LCD projectors are turned off, etc)

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Must be able to work independently, exhibit responsibility, possess strong customer service skills and follow directives
  • Must have effective communication and organizational skills, and be able to work flexible hours (including Saturdays)
  • Previous related customer service experience is required
  • Status as an existing University of Calgary student is preferred
