Position Overview

The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) and working in the Language Processing Lab and in the Speech Develoment Lab, this position provides research support in the areas of Language Processing and Language Development.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Contact and schedule child research participants using Child Participant Database
  • Schedule adult research participants through the Department of Psychology SONA system
  • Prepare experiments, using experiment presentation software when required
  • Conduct participant testing using behavioural tasks and standardized child assessments
  • Monitor participation in on-going studies and inform PI when target participant numbers achieved
  • Code response accuracy and response latency data from video or audio recordings
  • Collect, organize and enter data from research studies into SPSS database
  • Prepare and disseminate research results by running reports and presenting to PI

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Psychology or related field
  • Experience working in a lab conducting and disseminating research
  • Experience working with infants and children
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • High degree of computer literacy (e.g. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, SPSS, and online research databases)
  • Knowledge of Habit and Supercoder is an assest
  • Ability to compile, draft and maintain collected data and reports
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work in a team environment with research participants and lab associates
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to analyze and make recommendations and decisions
  • Ability to follow specific directions and research protocols
