Facility Manager, Facilities Management

Position Overview

Facilities Management is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Facility Manager.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Facilities Maintenance, and is expected to manage the long term strategic planning and operations of building maintenance programs within his/her respective Zone(s) in meeting or exceeding the department's Service Level Agreement (SLA) and providing a safe and reliable work environment for multiple tenants within the assigned Zone(s).

 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Provide supervision for the team including positive recognition and feedback as well as conflict resolution.
  • Develop and report on Facility Performance Indicators (FPI’s) such as work order turnover, attendance management, customer service/satisfaction, P.M. progress, and other metrics to ensure that his/her respective zone(s) are operating at optimal efficiency
  • Manage and communicate services levels and manage client expectations
  • Develop strategies to provide response systems appropriate to building needs
  • Direct the functional, physical and operational planning of existing, under construction and new facilities for the zones
  • Support the various service provision units to establish standards and acceptable service levels
  • Champion strong communication to ensure that occupants have necessary information concerning maintenance and construction activities in their area
  • Review annual operating zone budget, which includes recommendations on annual capital building project and operating submissions to the University of Calgary
  • Approve purchases and invoices to the level of assigned signing authority (and budgeted limits), ensuring that all University policies, procedures and practices related to purchase of goods and services and hiring of contracted resources are followed

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Red Seal Trades license and/or diploma/degree in construction or engineering fields and/or  FMA/RPA Designations mandatory.
  • Demonstrate 3+ years’ experience managing multiple, high volume facility or building operations (preferably in an educational setting) mandatory
  • Demonstrate leadership and supervisory training required
  • Possess (or be willing to obtain within 6 months of employment) one of the following professional designations: IFMA Certified Facility Manager (CFM), BOMA Facilities Management Administrator (FMA), BOMA Real Property Administrator (RPA),  APPA Educational Facilities Professional (EFP) and/or APPA Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP)
  • Be thoroughly familiar with applicable building codes and be able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Able to read and interpret contract documentation and to deal with contractors
  • Proven record of providing superior customer service including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Intermediate level computer knowledge and be able to use Microsoft office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Able to analyze and report regularly on budgets, attendance management, performance management, and FPI’s
  • Be adept at mobile communication devices, such as the iPhone/iPad
  • Hold a valid minimum Class 5 Alberta Operator’s License with less than 7 demerit points.  Learners, probationary, graduated license, or motorcycle/moped only license will not be acceptable. Drivers abstract will be requested.
