The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering  at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Catalysis and Reaction Engineering.

Job Description:

This position will report directly to the Principal Investigator, afaculty member at the Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering and director of EERG at the University of Calgary. It involves a wide range of work focused on research projects in carbon capture and utilization (CCU).

This position is located at the University of Calgary main campus. This position is a Fixed-Term, FullTime Employment for the duration of one year commencing from December 2022 with the possibility of extension based on the performance and fund availability.

The EERG team is in search of a competent Post-Doctoral Associate (PDA), preferably a Canadian Citizen or PR of Canada with degrees from multiple institutions, to aid in upcoming projects, to handle the additional workload in catalysis and reaction engineering, and to engage in collaborative research with other universities.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education: Hold a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (or closely related field) from an accredited university.
  • The candidate must have been awarded a PhD or equivalent within the five years immediately preceding the start date of this posting.
  • High level of hands-on skills with catalysis/ material synthesis, development, characterization and performance for carbon capture and utilization (CCU) with the strong and proven background on catalysis.
  • Able to develop kinetic models on emerging processes in CCU using different reactor setups.
  • Familiar with energy and environmental research areas, specifically carbon capture & conversion, methane reforming, chemical looping processes.
  • Strong experimental experience within a laboratory environment specifically in research projects related to CCU and/or hydrogen production.
  • Hands-on skills in operating and maintaining characterization equipment in labs, such as: gas sorption experiments, XRD, XPS, TGA, ICP-OES, ChemBET, BET, CHNS/O elemental analyser and gas/liquid chromatography.
  • Prepare, organize, and submit proposals necessary for grant applications.
