Position Description

University of Calgary Continuing Education (ContEd) is currently recruiting for an instructor (contract (term) position) to teach Advanced Project Management Diploma courses in the 2023-24 academic year.

In support of the University of Calgary's core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.

Each year, ContEd serves over 20,000 adult learners and offers more than one thousand courses taught by hundreds of instructors—all experts in their fields. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the university. 

The success of University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon effectively serving students and by providing high-quality instruction and programs.

Position Description

The successful candidates will serve as instructors within the University of Calgary Continuing Education and teach the following courses identified below in our Advanced Project Management Diploma Program.   

These instructional positions are non-credit teaching appointments and, as such, are contract (term) positions without benefits (other than those required by Employment Standards). Expectation is that successful candidates can teach in a different delivery formats such as online, Face-to-face and Blended.

Program and Course Details:

Program Description: The Advanced Project Management Diploma explores the core principles of project management as documented in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) – Seventh Edition. Students enrolled in the Advanced Project Management Diploma program will acquire the competencies, knowledge, and tools to advance projects that impact business growth. This program will immerse students in project management practices, frameworks, tools, and templates that support the advancement of projects in an increasingly complex business environment filled with constant change.

  • PMF 210 Project Management Performance Domains: Delivery and Measurement
  • PMF 220 Risk Management in Projects
  • PMF 230 Agile Project Management Foundations: Methodology, Application and Practices
  • PMF 240 Project Models, Methods & Artifacts: Level 2
  • PMF 250 Project Management: Applied Learning Project

The Delivery Format for the courses includes Face-to-face (in-class), Online (both Asynchronous and Synchronous) and Blended (in-class merged with online)

Start Dates: The position starts in May 2023 onwards

Scope of Responsibilities (high level)

  1. Create effective lesson plans, and develop content, learning activities, presentations, assignments, evaluations, and examinations (where applicable). 
  2. Utilize our online learning management system Desire2Learn (D2L), for all course materials, assessments, student communication, participant engagement, and student communication activities that make learning meaningful for students.
  3. Utilize online communication tools like Zoom to facilitate synchronous, asynchronous and blended course delivery and participant engagement.

Qualifications 

  1. Bachelor or Master’s degree in Project Management or related field is required
  2. PMP certified, and an Adult Learning Certificate in project management or equivalent is an asset 
  3. Previous teaching experience is essential; post-secondary teaching experience is preferred
  4. A professional work experience in Project Management is preferred
  5. Extensive experience in designing and implementing e-learning programs and facilitating online learning is essential
  6. Adult Learning Certificate or equivalent is an asset 
  7. Previous experience utilizing e-learning tools (LMS, video conferencing tools, etc.) such as Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Moodle, Zoom, or similar is preferred
