Position Description

The Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary is looking for one instructor for Human Anatomy and Human Physiology or two instructors (one for the human anatomy portion and one for the human physiology portion) and a lab instructor to teach KNES 259 - Human Anatomy & Physiology I in Spring 2023 and KNES 260 in Summer 2023.

KNES 259 Human Anatomy & Physiology I:
The instructional approach is a combination of systematic and regional anatomy and physiology with some surface anatomy and radiologic considerations.  General cell physiology, bone anatomy, neurophysiology and muscular physiology, as well as skeletal structure, types of connective tissues, structure of joints and muscles of an axial and appendicular skeleton will be covered.  Laboratories utilize human tissue materials, anatomical models, charts, and prosected cadavers and cadaver specimens.

KNES 260 Human Anatomy & Physiology II:
The instructional approach is a combination of systematic and regional anatomy and physiology with some surface anatomy and radiologic considerations.  Physiology and anatomy of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, endocrine, renal and gastrointestinal systems as well as anatomy of the reproductive and integumentary systems and special senses will be covered.  Laboratories utilize human tissue materials, anatomical models, charts, and prosected cadaver and cadaver specimens.

Please note that the method of instruction for this course may be online. Applicants must have experience delivering courses in a remote setting, which includes evidence of successful use of online lectures, student participation channels and assessment methods.  

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Instructor of record for the course including all instruction and grading.
  • Course and lab coordinator for anatomy position.
  • Strong proficiency with online instruction tools (e.g., Zoom, Yuja, D2L, etc.)
  • Other assigned duties.

Lab Instructor(s) Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy for the main systems in the human body (i.e., musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, and digestive).
  • Effective teaching strategies to create a student-driven learning experience using cadaveric specimens and models.
  • Strong proficiency with online instruction tools (e.g., Zoom, Yuja, D2L, etc.)
  • Other duties include: lab preparation, exam preparation and proctoring, responding to student questions.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in the related field with advanced expertise in teaching human anatomy and/or human physiology.
