Position Description

Sessional Instructors, Spring/Summer 2023, School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures

The School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for French sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Spring 2023 (May 4, 2023-June 24, 2023) and Summer 2023 (June 27, 2023-August 26, 2023) 

Spring 2023 Courses of Instruction: 

  • FREN 209 (LEC 02) - Beginners' French I: MWF 13:00-14:50 (In person)
  • FREN 209 (LEC 03) - Beginners' French I: MWF 8:00-9:50 (In person)
  • FREN 209 (LEC 04) - Beginners' French I: MWF 10:00-11:50 (In person)

Summer 2023 Courses of Instruction: 

  • FREN 211 (LEC 01) - Beginners' French II: MWF 13:00-14:50 (In person)

Position Requirements:

  • PhD in French given preference
  • Requires native or near-native fluency in French and English
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses at a university level

Please note that the courses are tentative, pending sufficient enrollments.

For salary information, please refer to TUCFA's Collective Agreement, Schedule B. As per the Collective Agreement, the Faculty of Arts adheres to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.

Application Process:
All applicants must provide a letter specifying the course(s) and session(s) of interest (in order of preference), outlining their qualifications to teach each course. Applicants who have taught in the Department within the past two years need not provide anything further, although more information may be requested later in the selection process.

New applicants must submit: 
-    A current CV containing relevant teaching experience (e.g., courses taught, textbooks used, where and when taught). 
-    Names and contact information for 3 potential referees; and
-    Teaching evaluations (if available)

Doctoral students must have successfully completed their candidacy exams prior to the beginning of the term in question for their applications to be given consideration. They should also have discussed their application with their supervisor and include a letter of support from their supervisors with their application. Those who have completed the Instructional Skills Workshop at the Teaching and Learning Centre will also be given special consideration.

Exigences du poste : 

  • Doctorat(e) en français (de préférence) 
  • Parfaite maîtrise du français et de l'anglais (langue maternelle ou presque maternelle). 
  • Expérience de l'enseignement de cours de premier cycle à un niveau universitaire.

Processus de candidature:

Tous les candidats doivent fournir une lettre précisant le(s) cours et la(les) session(s) qui les intéressent (par ordre de préférence), en soulignant leurs qualifications pour enseigner chaque cours. Les candidats qui ont enseigné dans le département au cours des deux dernières années ne doivent rien fournir de plus, bien que des informations supplémentaires puissent être demandées plus tard dans le processus de sélection. 

Les nouveaux candidats doivent soumettre : 

  • Un CV contenant l'expérience d'enseignement pertinente (par exemple, les cours enseignés, les manuels utilisés, où et quand ils ont enseigné). 
  • Les noms et coordonnées de trois personnes de référence;  
  • Des évaluations d'enseignement (si disponibles) 

Les doctorant(e)s doivent avoir réussi leur examen de candidature avant le début du trimestre d’enseignement pour que leur demande soit prise en considération. Ils doivent également avoir discuté de leur candidature avec leur superviseur et joindre une lettre d'appui de ce dernier à leur demande.  

Les personnes qui ont suivi l'Instructional, Skills Workshop au Teaching and Learning Centre, feront également l'objet d'une attention particulière.
