Position Overview
The Faculty of Nursing invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) the nature of work varies with job stressors being moderate and including deadlines and attention to detail. The work environment requires time spent at a computer, on the telephone, attendance at project team meetings and other project related activities. The nature of the work involves a variety of duties and tasks performed and have few physical demands.
Tasks are moderately complex - such as the maintenance of records and process-related documents or composing routine correspondence.
The Research Assistant has the responsibility to produce deliverables, setting their own priorities and deadlines in accordance with established procedures, department goals, and objectives. They review their own work for errors; however, work is occasionally reviewed for quality and completeness by a supervisor. The successful applicant has accountability to perform at a proficient level. They will deal effectively with moderately complex issues and concerns and often recommend changes to day-to-day procedures or practices performed in the work unit. The Research Assistant will demonstrate an understanding of the impact of their work by being proactive about process improvements.
The position requires judgment and decision-making. Decisions will be guided by study protocols and guidelines. The incumbent will collect research data, prepare research data for analysis, and/or write reports for dissemination. This position also requires independently knowing where to look for information, and contributing to discussions about solutions to complex problems in a team setting. The work requires a high degree of accuracy, and the ability to re-prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines. The incumbent must also be able to work with diverse teams of researchers and community collaborators with varying levels of experience to ensure equitable involvement and learning throughout the research processes.
The Research Assistant’s primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator with research activities in a study exploring Alberta nurses’ perceptions and experiences in equity, diversity, and inclusion. The incumbent will be responsible for data collection, preparing data for analysis, and/or writing research reports as needed. The successful candidate will liaise with the research team and participate in relevant project team meetings and/or supervisor meetings.
The Research Assistant will demonstrate and maintain professionalism and confidentiality. This positions deals with shifting priorities; the Research Assistant will also ensure deadlines are met and that the information provided is accurate, employing their attention to detail.
