Position Overview
The Research Security team in the Research Services Office invites applications for a Manager, Compliance & Special Investigations. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 2 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Research Services Office (RSO) works with the University of Calgary's research community to advance research enterprise. RSO aims to increase sponsored research revenue, reduce financial, reputational and market risk and manage compliance for the university.
The University of Calgary is building a robust research security team within the Research Services Office to act as one stop shop for information on research security and coordinate and report on the 5 vectors of Research Security which include: Intellectual Property, Partnerships, Cyber Security, People and Physical Security.
Within RSO, Research Security acts as a resource to faculty and to the research enterprise to navigate new and changing requirements from the federal and provincial governments and international regulations on national security guidelines related to research partnerships. It serves as a one-stop shop in providing information and guidance on how to safeguard research from theft, interference, or unwanted transfer of knowledge and that results in ways individuals and teams do not intend.
Research Security is a division comprised of three units that include: Education and Outreach, Due Diligence and Compliance, Mitigation, and Special Investigations. This position will lead the Compliance and Special Investigations team.
Research Security will provide guidance, identify, and mitigate risks and become a center of expertise on open-source intelligence gathering, export controls and sanctions. It will have three lines of work which include education/awareness, due diligence, mitigation and compliance.
The Manager reports to the Director, Research Security and will create processes and policy to ensure all partner agreements risk mitigation plans are reviewed and monitored. The manager will ensure all questions from within the institution are reviewed and responded and that high-risk profiles are escalated and handled in an appropriate manner by creating processes and policies.
