Position Overview

The Treasury & Investments Department is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Investment Analyst.

The Treasury & Investments department is responsible for the management of the University of Calgary's cash and investment assets which includes cash and debt management, short-term and long-term investments of both the University's working capital and endowments, as well as providing advisory support to other departments and faculties within the University of Calgary. Reports to the Portfolio Manager, Investments and indirectly to Senior Investment Analysts

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Collect and process investment reports, data, presentations and other ad hoc material from the University's investment managers and service providers
  • Monitor changing market conditions and impacts to the performance and risks related to the University's investments
  • Support Senior Investment Analysts with the preparation of comprehensive investment reports and analyses
  • Support Senior Investment Analysts with due diligence and managing relationships with existing and potential investment managers or service providers
  • Support Senior Investment Analysts with implementation and administration of all investments and redemptions
  • Support projects and activities involving external investment consultants
  • Review of quarterly investment manager reporting
  • Attend and take notes at quarterly update calls with investment managers and/or consultants
  • Identify and advise of any material news or issues
  • Support Senior Investment Analysts with ad hoc due diligence, analyses, and reports as required
  • Maintain current knowledge on market and economic events and forecasts
  • Work with and maintain collaborative communications with other Finance or University departments
     

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion or progression towards a professional finance designation (CFA, CAIA, etc.) with a university degree in Finance, Economics or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Work experience in the investment industry (2+ years)
  • Solid understanding of financial markets and asset classes as it relates to performance, risk, and correlation characteristics
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with an attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Intellectual curiosity, a willingness to learn, and respectfully question the status quo is important for success
  • Strong sense of initiative and integrity to work effective both independently and collaboratively with a team of strong personalities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications particularly with Excel
  • Previous experience with market data systems and providers would be an asset

Additional Information

This position is classified in the Professional Career Band, Level 2 of the Management and Professional Staff Career Framework, with a salary of $80,000.
