Senior Analyst, Investments, Treasury and Investments

Position Overview

The Treasury and Investments team in Finance is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Senior Analyst, Investments.

The Treasury & Investments department is responsible for the management of the University of Calgary's cash and investment assets which includes cash and debt management, short-term and long-term investments of both the University's working capital and endowments, as well as providing advisory support to other departments and faculties within the University of Calgary.

This position reports to the Portfolio Manager, Investments and requires strong knowledge of complex and technical investment, financial and treasury concepts. The incumbent must collaborate effectively within the Treasury & Investments team as well as with other University departments and faculties, and develop and maintain positive working relationships with investment managers, banks, and other service providers.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

• Monitor and verify investment reporting and performance of the University's investment managers and custodians
• Monitor changing market conditions and impacts to the performance and risks related to the University's investments
• Support the development, implementation, and preparation of comprehensive investment reports, analyses, policies, and procedures
• Perform due diligence and manage relationships with existing and potential investment managers or service providers
• Conduct analyses and provide recommendations to the Portfolio Manager, Investments on investment managers or strategies to be considered
• Manage implementation and administration of new and existing investments
• Support projects and activities involving external investment consultants
• Provide oversight, guidance, and coaching to other Treasury & Investments staff and other University departments as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Professional finance designation (CFA, CAIA, etc.) with a university degree in Finance, Economics or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Work experience in the investment industry (5+ years)
• Strong understanding of financial markets and asset classes as it relates to performance, risk, and correlation characteristics
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with an attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Intellectual curiosity, a willingness to learn and respectfully question the status quo is important for success
• Strong sense of initiative and integrity to work effective both independently and collaboratively with a team of strong personalities
• Supervisory experience and the proven ability to manage small teams and provide direction and leadership to staff
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and expert user of Excel
• Previous experience with market data systems and providers would be an asset
• Previous experience in an academic or public sector environment would be an asset

Additional Information

This position is classified in the Professional Career Band, Level 3 of the Management and Professional Staff Career Framework, with a salary of $100,000.
