Position Description
The Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and the O’Brien Institute for Public Health invite applications from outstanding investigators for a Canada Research Chair (Tier I) position in Digital Health. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Professor (with tenure) and will be nominated for a CIHR Tier 1 Canada Research Chair. This position has 75% protected time for research with the remaining 25% time for teaching and service activities.
The Canada Research Chairs Program stands at the center of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top countries in research and development. It invests approximately $295 million per year to attract and retain a diverse cadre of world-class researchers, to reinforce academic research and training excellence in Canadian postsecondary institutions. Tier 1 Chairs are tenable for seven years and renewable once. Tier 1 Chairs are intended for exceptional established scholars (i.e., candidates must be an established active researcher in their field and an Associate Professor eligible for promotion within 1-2 years or a full Professor). The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent combination of education and experience (i.e. MD and a formal research degree). The O’Brien Institute for Public Health aims to expand capacity to adapt, evaluate and implement digital technologies for better health and all areas of broadly related expertise will be considered. Areas considered include health services and policy research, biostatistics, epidemiology, informatics, innovation and entrepreneurship, engineering, data science and computer science. The successful candidate will have academic qualifications commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Professor including a competitive externally funded research program, significant publication track record demonstrating thought-leadership in the field, explicit knowledge translation activities to move research findings into practice and a high-quality training program engaging learners at all levels.
