Position Description

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services (http://www.albertahealthservices.ca) invites applications for a position in academic rheumatology, medical leadership and research. The Department of Medicine is looking to recruit a new the Head of the Division/Section of Rheumatology, who also has a focus in translational and/or clinical research in arthritis, at the Associate Professor (Tenure Track) or Professor (with Tenure) level.

Qualifications required include a MD, certification in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, eligibility for regular licensure in the Province of Alberta, and sub-specialty training in Rheumatology. An advanced research degree such as a Master’s degree or equivalent research training and experience is also required. The successful candidate will be involved in clinical and/or translational research in the area of arthritis and would participate in teaching at the University of Calgary in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate clinical and academic programs. The position will have 60% protected time for research and 20% protected time for the role of Head of the Division/Section of Rheumatology.  Duties will also include providing clinical care to patients as part of their membership within the Division/Section of Rheumatology.

Applicants at the level of Associate Professor must present evidence of success as a clinician researcher, as demonstrated through academic productivity in terms of national/international grant funding, national/international presentations, and impactful peer-reviewed research publications. Medical leadership training and/or experience is also required. Evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision would be an asset. Evidence of collaborations with other researchers and academic engagement in professional and other communities will be assessed.

Applicants at the level of Professor must present evidence of significant success as a clinician researcher, as demonstrated through evidence of a well-established, externally funded (at the level of Tri-Council or equivalent peer-reviewed National/International organization(s)) research program focused on rheumatological disorders, national/international presentations, and an extensive impactful publication record. Medical leadership training and/or experience is also required. Evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision would be an asset. Evidence of collaborations with other researchers and academic engagement in professional and other communities will be assessed.

Alberta Health Services operates five teaching hospitals in the city of Calgary. AHS serves 2.4 million residents of Southern Alberta, Southeastern British Columbia and Southwestern Saskatchewan.  The Department provides academic and clinical services in an integrated manner across all of the hospital sites and in several ambulatory care settings.
