Position Description

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences (http://www.ucalgary.ca/dcns/) at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, in partnership with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research institute (ACHRI) and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) invites applications for a Contingent Term position at the Assistant Professor level.
 
Qualifications include an MD, and Canadian Royal College specialist certification in Neurosurgery, graduate level research training with an advanced degree and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. A strong track record of scholarly activity, with 10 or more peer-reviewed publications, is desired in the preferred candidate. Clinical fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery will be an asset to broaden the scope of practice for the appropriate candidate.

The successful candidate will join the Section of Neurosurgery at the University of Calgary. They will be expected to provide exceptional clinical care with a focus on Hydrocephalus. The position will be based at Foothills Medical Centre, with opportunities to participate in acute care coverage, and some focused clinical activity at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to gradually assume leadership of the adult hydrocephalus program and will be tasked with collaborating with the pediatric neurosurgeons to develop a program for hydrocephalus patients transitioning between pediatric and adult care. The amount of time protected for academic activity and the startup package will depend on the candidate’s track record and academic plan. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a research and innovation program focused on advancing the understanding and treatment of hydrocephalus. Candidates with a research direction relevant to the missions of ACHRI/HBI will also be considered. The candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching of medical students, residents, clinical and research fellows, and graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to start their position between July 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024.

Salary support will be through an Academic Medicine Health Services Plan (AMHSP) supported by Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and the Cumming School of Medicine.
