The Department of Cardiac Sciences and Libin Cardiovascular Institute in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Pragmatic Trials and Implementation Science for eHealth Applications.
Job Description:
The Alberta Provincial Project for Outcomes Assessment in Coronary Heart Disease (APPROACH) and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute at the University of Calgary are accepting applications for a Fellowship in pragmatic clinical trials and implementation science, to be based in Calgary, Alberta. APPROACH is both a longstanding cardiac registry and a collaborative network of researchers and cardiovascular care clinicians located in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. APPROACH investigators and trainees have access to rich clinical and administrative data sources to perform high-quality cardiovascular epidemiological and health services research. We also work in partnership with clinicians, patients, and operational leaders to design, test, and implement innovative eHealth decision support tools for cardiac care. APPROACH trainees and junior faculty have previously published papers as first authors in a variety of major journals including Circulation, JAMA, JAMA-Internal Medicine, JAHA, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Canadian Journal of Cardiology, and many others (see www.approach.org for more information). The Libin Cardiovascular Institute is a virtual institute that coordinates all cardiovascular science research, education and patient care in Southern Alberta. Its 1500 members are working towards a shared vision to lead and transform healthcare using precision cardiovascular health platforms (see www.libin.ucalgary.ca).
This two-year appointment will train an emerging leader in pragmatic clinical trials and implementation science for innovative eHealth applications developed by our group. The two key areas of focus are: (1) using Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) as tools to inform and improve cardiac care delivery, and (2) evaluation of novel electronic tools to support shared decision-making. The successful candidate will have the opportunity for first-hand experience with funded research initiatives directly related to one of both of the key focus areas, and will interact with a team of experts in the required domains. In addition, there will be numerous opportunities to conduct related analyses using existing linked databases and implementation platforms, including the APPROACH provincial registry of clinical and angiographic data, Alberta Health Services Administrative data, and clinical information systems.
Preference will be given to those who hold advanced (PhD) training in research methodology for clinical epidemiology, randomized trials, and / or implementation science / knowledge translation. Additional expertise and experience with eHealth / mobile Health tools, data management, biostatistics, and grant writing are considered important assets. We offer close mentorship, opportunities to contribute to a wide variety of research projects in cardiovascular diseases, and a collegial and supportive working environment. Financial assistance with relocation may be available for certain candidates.
Successful candidates will be fluent in English and be eligible to reside in Canada during the appointment.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants will have completed their PhD within the last 3 years, have expertise in one of the methodological areas highlighted above, including randomized trials, implementation science or knowledge translation.
