Position Description

Area: Machine Learning – Digital Imaging in Clinical Diagnostics

Duration: 1 year (with possibility for extension)

Start Date: Immediate

Salary: $55,000 - $70,000

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Clinical and Pathologic Diagnostics

Job Description:

This is a posting for a post-doctoral scholar to pursue scientific goals associated with clinical diagnostics research. Specifically, the position will surround developing and applying machine learning and AI algorithms to digital imaging of pathology specimens, biomarkers, genomics and clinical factors to predict cancer and other disease risk. 

The successful applicant will work at the interface of one of Canada’s leading research universities, one of the largest clinical laboratories in North America, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Alberta’s growing biotechnology sector. The applicant will report to the principal investigator and team assembled to address the development of machine learning algorithms related to digital pathology and laboratory testing.

Qualifications:

  • MD. PhD, or MD/PhD Required.
  • The position is highly independent and requires exercising sound judgment for day-to-day operational decisions as well as providing advice and recommendations.
  • This position will require independent learning and application of deep learning and computer vision techniques.
  • Knowledge and application of machine learning algorithms in digital pathology and/or medical imaging is an asset.
  • Experience with computer vision for astronomy or automated driving applications will be considered.
  • Knowledge or experience with a clinical laboratory environment is desired.
  • Communication skills and multi-tasking projects are essential.
  • Strong coding skills are necessary.
  • Experience or qualifications in Anatomical Pathology/General Pathology also an asset.
