The Department of Earth, Energy & Environment in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a Research Project Facilitator . This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 27 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator and working with research project teams and external partners, the Research Facilitator will work towards effective and successful execution of funded and future research endeavors. They will primarily support research teams in the execution of funded research projects. The successful candidate will administer and facilitate funded and future research activities and oversee administrative processes and procedures for various research programs. The incumbent will establish a service-oriented approach and familiarization of the University's various internal and external research-related and grant policies is beneficial.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist researchers in developing and formatting project reporting (including budget reporting) and submission via agency platforms.
  • Coordinate research meetings and occasionally conference/workshop participation by extended team.
  • Support team members in field work communication and safety plan submission.
  • Tracking and advising researchers on project reporting and finance deadlines and budget status to ensure optimal use of grant funding while adhering to grant and university regulations.
  • Tracking of graduate student stipends, PostDoc contracts, obtaining quotes for, and submission of orders for materials and supplies to the Science Business and Operations Team.
  • Book rooms for and attend project team meetings as requested and/or available.
  • Identify and track key performance indicators that demonstrate the team's success.
  • Manage calendar invitations to research meetings.
  • Interpret and disseminate information on University policies, regulations and procedures to researchers.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Related post-secondary diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to administer and facilitate research activities within a team environment.
  • Several years of experience in an academic environment, preferably at a major university, with good project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of university systems and procedures.
  • Experience working in a large, dynamic team with proven personal effectiveness and productivity.
  • Capable in standard Microsoft products (e.g. Word, Excel, and Teams) with good computer skills (e.g., report formatting and collation).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in budget tracking.
  • Demonstrated ability to be resourceful, innovative, and flexible.
  • Proven organizational skills, able to work independently with good judgement and discretion.
  • Knowledge of UCalgary (or equivalent) platforms (e.g. PeopleSoft, eFIN, RMS).
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g., Tri Council, Alberta Innovates).
  • Open to learning and development and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
  • Experience with web content management systems an asset.
