Position Description
The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Quantum Sensors. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024 or a mutually agreed date.
The candidate must prioritize research in designing and engineering quantum sensors and quantum measurements with a performance advantage over conventional strategies for engineering and technology applications.
The selected candidate must demonstrate alignment with the strategic plans of the University of Calgary's Ahead of Tomorrow (https://ucalgary.ca/about/ahead-of-tomorrow), the Schulich Momentum (https://schulich.ucalgary.ca/about/schulich-momentum), and the University of Calgary’s Quantum City Initiative (https://research.ucalgary.ca/quantum-city) effectively supporting the specified strategic academic and research priorities.
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses on topics related to one of the engineering disciplines within the Schulich School of Engineering. Furthermore, they will actively contribute to teaching, curriculum development, graduate student supervision, and mentoring and are expected to provide service in support of their Department(s), School, University, and Profession. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have earned a doctoral degree in Engineering, Science, or a closely related discipline relevant to Quantum Sensors by the date of their appointment. The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate a track record of publications in high-quality journals, the potential for securing external research funding, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.
Candidates should have strong oral and written English communication skills. The successful candidates is expected to take steps to register as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
