Position Description

The Faculty of Nursing within the University of Calgary is seeking Sessional Nursing Instructors to teach undergraduate level theory courses to students across Alberta (via Zoom) for the Spring 2024 semesters as follows:
Spring 2024 SEMESTER (April 29 – June 24, 2024)

TERM 4
Nursing 387: The Science of Health II: Families in Transition

Nursing 388: Supporting Health II: Families in Transition

Sessional Instructors are provided with exceptional orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. The amount of remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B.  Please see the Faculty Association’s website at http://www.ucalgary.ca/hr/tucfa-ca for further information regarding conditions of employment and remuneration.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned course(s) to rural and remote learners via Zoom 
  • Participate in team meetings (remotely) related to the course, term, and faculty governance
  • Evaluation of student work according to course outline
  • Creation of course outline in conjunction with other instructors of record for designated course
  • Seek excellence in teaching by applying various teaching strategies and working with colleagues
  • Encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and scholarship 

Qualifications:            
Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.  A minimum of an MN/MScN degree or equivalent is required. 

Applied Experience:   

  • Current practice experience related to semester focus
  • Experience in rural nursing practice 
  • Knowledge of various pedagogical approaches suited to online adult learners
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, and evaluation of students

Enhanced Abilities:    

  • Application of adult teaching/learning principles
  • Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation
  • Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • Evaluation and promotions of student problem solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to critique student performance and provide meaningful feedback
  • Understanding of the impacts and legacy of colonization on Indigenous people in Canada and the importance of cultural humility and cultural safety when working with Indigenous people
  • Computer skills in word processing, email and internet access
