Position Overview
The Campus Architecture within the Facilities Development is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Architectural Technologist.
Campus Architecture leads the campus community in design discussions aimed at the development of a series of remarkable built campus environments. The Campus Architecture office, working with other stakeholders on campus and in related industries, develops and maintains the University of Calgary Design Standards, is responsible for the Long Range Development Plan, the Landscape Master Plan and directs architectural consulting teams in the execution of projects on campus.
All drawings and specifications for projects done on campus come through the Campus Architecture office for review and accuracy, and once completed, are stored in Facilities Development's Records Department. All feasibility and scoping drawings done for proposals seeking approval are done by Campus Architecture. Campus Architecture reviews consultant drawings for accuracy and maintains all Archibus drawings for use by the larger campus community.
Campus Architecture works closely with Campus Engineering, Campus Planning, the Project Management Office, the Facilities Management portfolio and the Office of Sustainability as well as with all University faculties/units undertaking a new building or renovations on one of the campuses.
As a member of the Campus Architecture (CA) team this position reports to the Architectural Technology Specialist who reports directly to the University Architect within the Facilities Development (FD) portfolio.
The primary purpose of this position is to prepare detailed architectural working and presentation drawings for building renovations, site improvements, installation of new capital equipment, specialized alternations and custom designed items. Working with the Campus Architecture, Campus Planning and Campus Engineering the Technologist will assemble information necessary to create drawings for the proposal/project, using templates and standards for consistency. Currently all records are stored as AutoCAD files, but the Campus Architecture team is building the inventory of REVIT models of the campus.
Taking direction from the Specialist, the Technologist will determine if the existing record base drawings where a proposal/project is located, are accurate. If required, the Technologist will site measure and confirm dimensions before beginning the drawings. All drawings will be developed in accordance with the University of Calgary technical drawing standards.
The Technologist will also be asked to strip consultant record drawings to meet the University's needs for composite drawings/models held in the Records Department. He/she continually updates and maintains a comprehensive set of AutoCAD and REVIT models for existing spaces, buildings, facilities and sites.
