Position Overview
The FD Finance within the Facilities Development is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Analyst, Capital Reporting for approximately 20 months.
The Analyst, Capital Reporting reports to the Manager, Finance Services and plays an important role in the delivery of financial services to support the execution of the University's Capital Program, comprising over $700 million in projects in the construction phase and more than $300 million in various stages of planning. This position requires strong analytical capabilities, complex problem solving skills, sound professional judgement and diverse finance and accounting experience.
The role is complex due to the technical financial concepts, understanding of agency policy and guidelines, and high analytical nature of work. This position is expected to deal with shifting priorities and operate in a highly complex environment with multiple and competing deadlines. The incumbent must work well under pressure and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the institution and with external stakeholders. Individuals must be able to act independently and solve complex business issues while demonstrating flexibility and strong financial analysis skills. There is a high impact of errors as inaccurate advice or information could have serious consequences to stakeholders and/or the reputation of the University. Professional judgment in reviewing own work and the work of team members is required.
This key position provides accounting and finance advice, support and service to Project Managers and Facilities Directors and Managers, coordinating the delivery of finance support to various stakeholders. The Analyst will provide support with all aspects of project accounting, financial analysis and reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis on capital programs and projects while adhering to policies and guidelines and promoting strong internal control and best practices. The position will ensure terms and conditions of grant awards are met, cash flows are managed, project budgets are not exceeded, expenditures are appropriate and properly approved in accordance with the University of Calgary Signing Authority Policy and recorded in the financial records in accordance with accounting standards. The Analyst will provide reports to the Minister’s representative (or other funding sources) in formats as determined by the funding agency.
