Position Overview
The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for four (4) Research Associate - Phlebotomist(s). This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 18 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Shifts may vary according to participant enrolment and appointment scheduling. During the sampling period, there will likely be multiple clinics per week, including some evenings and weekends. Sampling periods for the study will be 2-3 months in length, every 6-12 months for approximately 24 months.
The Pediatric Emergency Research Team (PERT) (through the University of Calgary) is hiring Phlebotomist for the Calgary Daycare STEC Outbreak Long-Term Follow-up Research Study. The purpose of the Calgary Daycare STEC Outbreak Long Term Follow up research study is to better understand how the recent outbreak of e.coli in Calgary daycare's is impacting health outcomes in children longer term (over the course of 2 years post-infection).
Reporting to the Research Program Manager. Located that the Alberta Children's Hospital.
This is a recurring part-time position with variable hours. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Patient care and Phlebotomy
Welcome participants to the clinic
Verify information with families
Perform blood sample collection on pediatric (adolescent) study participants
Handle, store, transport specimens according to laboratory guidelines
Complete requisitions
Follows and ensures team follows safety procedures and policies, uses personal protective equipment appropriately
Comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Responsible for keeping work area clean and safe
Protect and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to study participants
Research & Administration
Assist with plans and designs for specialized applications to meet the needs of operations, research, and services
Determine and updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Responsible of the organization of the day-to-day administration of the clinic
Responsible for ordering, and stock checking
Extensive understanding, continued learning and development of safety codes, standards, and systems related to pediatric and adolescent phlebotomy
Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for technical work performed in the clinic
Participate in design and development of processes
Work closely with the Principal Investigator in areas of protocol development, standard operating protocol development, development of research projects and proposals, contribute to and assist in submitting research grants and proposals
