Position Description

Student Intern, UCeed Energy Fund

Since its inception in 2020, UCeed has become one of Alberta’s most active early-stage investors. UCeed is the University of Calgary’s group of six start-up investment funds with $25M Assets Under Management and is one of Canada’s most active venture capital funds having made 56 investments for $7M since inception. In addition to investing and portfolio support activities, the UCeed group is responsible for managing Innovate Calgary’s portfolio of equity and royalty holdings and overseeing the development, selection, and divestment of these assets. The UCeed team also takes an active role in coaching and mentorship to increase value in UCeed portfolio companies.

We are looking for highly engaged candidates with a passion for entrepreneurship, the ability to learn quickly and execute with excellence, accuracy, attention to detail, and superior communication skills. The ideal candidate will be organized, have a bias for action, and have a deep commitment to growth and learning. This role will involve a dynamic range of initiatives that have a tangible and significant impact on the UCeed Energy Fund program. During its initial 9-month operation, UCeed Energy evaluated over 100 ventures, conducting thorough due diligence on 16 companies, in-depth analysis on 9, and invested in 4. Annually, the team is projected to screen over 200 companies, delve deeply into 25-30, and invest in 10-12.
