The Payroll Department within Finance is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Pension Analyst.

The Pension Analyst reports to the Manger, Payroll, and is responsible to provide oversight and direction with regards to the University defined benefit/pension plan data and records, eligibility compliance, and administrative processes. This role will have consultation and frequent interaction with the Benefits Administration & Human Resources workforce team, Total Rewards, and with external pension plan providers to address issues, process improvements and requirements. The Pension Analyst will provide expert level assurance of pension administration compliance with University collective agreements and policies, pension plan provisions, and governing pension legislation.

The Pension Analyst role is best suited for a well seasoned, highly trained Payroll Professional who has obtained their PCP and who also has Pension administration experience.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Become the subject matter expert regarding current pension plan, payroll / pension legislation, collective agreements, and apply professional judgment to ensure university pension plans and payroll administrative processes remain compliant
  • Expert level application of University pension's eligibility policies to enforce enrollment compliance
  • Ensure accurate maintenance and reporting of ongoing and year end pension data
  • Ensure all transactions and processes are performed within scheduled U of C Payroll and/or plan administrator deadlines
  • Provide accurate interpretation, calculation and processing of Pension data
  • Co-ordinate system and data updates related to pension events within both PeopleSoft and external pension administrative system
  • Document and direct system configuration and/or data management query requirements
  • Partner with internal and external administrators to ensure accurate pension data and engage in issue mitigation

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of PCP Certification with National Payroll Institute
  • Three to five years direct pension administration experience required
  • Three to five years direct exposure in Defined Benefits public sector pension plan administration would be an asset
  • People Soft or similar ERP experience required
  • Experience with internal controls and audit would be beneficial
  • Advanced organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A proven commitment to modeling team values, partnering with others to achieve timely and accurate results
  • An ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Attention to detail and strong judgment skills are required to deal with complex issues and concerns
  • Experience working with and interpreting policies, procedures, union contracts, regulatory procedures and keeping abreast of changing legislation
  • Expert working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
