Description

The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Analyst. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 24 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This academic research team is engaged in research methodologies for cancer epidemiology and health services research, focusing on developing methods related to health data quality, with a particular interest in cancer outcome data.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Application of clinical knowledge to the data analysis
  • Review and discussion of data from multiple data collection sources
  • Data collection via chart review in accordance with the protocol and project timelines
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality and privacy procedures for patient records as outlined in the ethics documents
  • Participation in meetings and presentations that focus on the overall project protocol, expectations, and improvements to the data dictionary and/or data collection tool. Input from the incumbent is vital to the accuracy of the data collection and results of the study
  • Under limited supervision & direction of the PI, develop and implement original studies within the guidelines of the research
  • Trains, mentors, and supervises other staff, students, and faculty in the research processes
  • Conduct literature review, surveys, data analysis and interpretation, laboratory experiments and other research for use in scholarly publications
  • Assist with designs for specialized applications to meet the needs of the research team
  • Participate in the design and development of data management tools and data collection processes as part of the overall project involvement and contribution

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in science, or healthcare-related field required
  • Specialized certification: Registered Nurse (RN) or enrollment as an advanced student of a nursing program is preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience working in healthcare settings (AHS clinical experience is an asset), and conducting quantitative health research with provincial healthcare data, especially in cancer care is preferred
  • Experience in conducting health chart reviews is an asset
  • Knowledge of the overall proposal and project
  • Knowledge of the data collection tool, variable definitions, and data mining stills
  • Strong background in medical and healthcare terminology and disease processes
  • Good judgment and concern for detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate well with colleagues from various disciplines and external collaborators within a complex initiative
  • Interact with other members of the team and undertake literature reviews
  • Ability to provide technical support for other team members through advice on clinical and study related issues
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and practical application of clinical knowledge to study procedures
  • Writing, communication, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills are required
  • Resourceful, innovative, creative, strategic, efficient, and problem solves
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Connect Care required, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and Internet skills
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
