Description
U of C Continuing Education is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Protective Concierge Team Lead for approximately 24 months.
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities and Technology, with in-scope supervision provided by the Security & Concierge Services Supervisor, the Protective Concierge Team Lead is responsible for duties which include facilitating a SafeWalk program, following security procedures, providing access to the building for facility rentals and on-site event services, and liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the safety of property and visitors to the campus. In the absence of the Security & Concierge Services Supervisor, this position will provide coverage in supervising the campus security & concierge services team. This position functions as both a team lead and as a security guard. The incumbent is expected to wear a blazer, white security shirt (required for SSIA compliance), tie, dress pants, safety boots, and University of Calgary name tag at all times. The University of Calgary will provide an appropriate blazer.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Security Related Responsibilities
- Monitor activity in the unstaffed Student Study Centre.
- Respond to reports of hazardous or unsafe conditions and calls for general service/assistance on campus.
- Provide training and mentoring to security guards as required.
- Monitor and act on incident reports; ensure they are complete.
- Provide assistance and direction to staff, faculty, students, and visitors.
- Control and monitor access to the loading dock, servery, and elevators.
- Provide a 24/7 service desk on behalf of the University Downtown Campus.
- Initiate reports involving criminal and other offences; investigate as required.
- Provide immediate emergency response to all critical life safety situations on campus.
- Provide effective 24 hour mobile and foot patrol for Downtown Campus and the attached parkade.
- Advise the Manager, Facilities and Technology and the Security & Concierge Services Supervisor of emergent issues..
- Respond to and investigate all activated alarms (fire, fire trouble, ammonia, chlorine, burglary, hold-up, panic, access, intrusion, tamper, and door).
- Lock and unlock classroom, meeting room, and event spaces as required. Reallocate classrooms if there are issues with technology and report as incidents.
- Act as a key campus operational team leader for normal operations; part of the critical response team for DTC in the case of emergency or building operation interruptions.
- Monitor CCTV cameras (Base building camera monitoring: all mechanical/electrical systems, HVAC systems, parkade levels, stairwells F, D and E, all parkade cameras and parkade corridors).
- Identify potential infrastructure emergencies and initiate appropriate after-hours response of property management and University of Calgary personnel as required (flood, structural damage, building systems).
Downtown Campus Concierge Responsibilities
- Provide OH&S policies to contractors.
- Book breakout rooms for students and staff.
- Receive, log, and return lost and found items.
- Coordinate usage of the service parking stalls.
- Provide courier and mail delivery receipt and distribution.
- Inform new catering employees about DTC catering procedures.
- Provide bike cage rental information and access to the cage as authorized.
- Develop relationships with facility staff and building operations staff for cross support.
- Provide wayfinding for students, instructors, event patrons, contractors, tenant visitors, and the general public.
- Coordinate the distribution/loaning of supplier access cards, instructor resource kits, copying assistance, and student after-hours access.
- Ensures that equipment, workspaces, and tools supplied by The University of Calgary are used for their intended purposes and are maintained in a safe working order.
- Ensure personal, public and co-worker safety when completing tasks or engaging in potentially hazardous situations.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education preferable.
- Experience with incident report writing.
- Impeccable deportment and professionalism.
- Strong critical thinking and active listening skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Exceptional report writing and communication skills.
- Current Level C CPR (including AED) and Standard First Aid Certificates.
- Proficiency in English - this applies to verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the University of Calgary and academic processes are an asset.
- Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) ProServe and ProTect certifications preferable.
- Outstanding customer service-oriented attitude as a front-line representative of the University of Calgary.
- No criminal convictions or charges pending. Candidates who proceed to the interview stage will be required to provide a criminal records search including a vulnerable sector search.
- Candidate must be licensed under the Security Services and Investigator Act (SSIA) and will include the Security Services worker classification (Loss Prevention and Executive Security).
- Candidates are highly organized with demonstrated teamwork, leadership, problem solving, communication, and partnership orientation. This includes the ability to operate and maintain an organized front desk environment.
Experience
- 3+ years of related security, service, or law enforcement experience.
- Experience using access control and CCTV systems required.
- Experience working independently (receiving minimal guidance).
- A minimum of 1 year acting in a leadership capacity for team members.
- Proficiency in conflict resolution and ability to de-escalate situations effectively.
- Experience with the Downtown Campus Security & Concierges Services team an asset.
- Ability to work effectively and handle multiple situations simultaneously, while providing quality service.
