The Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Analyst, Technical Business.

This position is part of the Applications team, reporting to the Team Lead, Applications within Information Technologies.

This position resides in a customer-focused, fast-paced, and highly collaborative team environment that demands integrity, initiative, coordination, facilitation, communication, and accountability in all its interactions.

The position has strong working relationships with business partners, IT Partners, and IT staff and requires a high level of technical expertise to ensure the effective delivery of IT services.

There is no formal call-out policy; there is an expectation for off-hours technical support (best efforts) for the University's critical and core systems.

Peak support periods are September and January for student registration and end of March and early April for the University's fiscal year-end activities.
 

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Provide sound technical solutions to business problems, based on industry best practices
  • Work with business partners and staff in other IT teams to effectively resolve technical incidents or problems
  • Implement and integrate applications according to IT best practices and standards
  • Collaborate with business partners and IT staff to investigate and recommend solutions that enable the business unit to achieve its goals
  • Take the initiative to build and maintain positive relationships with business partners, technical staff, and business sponsors
  • Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the University and its organizational structure, policies, practices, processes and systems
  • Elicit, gather, and compile comprehensive business and technical requirements
  • Understand emerging technologies as potential solutions to business problems
  • Align systems solutions with the vision and strategic goals of the institution and business units
  • Produce consistently high quality documentation in support of service delivery (project, change, release and lifecycle management)
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with business partners and IT staff, ensuring the successful delivery of a service
  • Maintain trustworthy and productive working relationships with business partners and IT staff

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary undergraduate degree required
  • ITIL certification is an asset
  • Five or more year's experience implementing and working with complex COTS applications or systems
  • Five or more year's experience in business and technical analysis and project management functions
  • Knowledge of and experience working in a post-secondary environment is an asset
  • Experience in applying business analysis standards and project management methodologies to resolve technical problems
  • Experience in preparing business cases, business requirements documents, or preparing use-case or sequence diagrams
  • Experience with ServiceNow or other service management software
  • Ability to influence others towards positive outcomes and ensure progress on initiatives
  • Ability to quickly learn about new products, systems, applications and technologies
  • Ability to determine the impact of system changes on business processes and outcomes
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills; detail-orientated
  • Diplomatic, collaborative, flexible, analytical, critical thinker, customer service oriented, self-starter, and facilitator
  • Proficient in relevant desktop applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Visio)
  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management and documenting/developing application roadmaps is an asset
