The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator. 

The position will support the P3 Cohort research program, which is a research study that is looking to recruit 4000 pregnant women and their partners to take part in a longitudinal study. The overall aims of the study are to better predict which women will deliver preterm and test different interventions to prevent preterm birth, and to improve outcomes for preterm infants and their families.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Coordination and administration of research projects, including coordination of research ethics applications and modifications
  • Developing data collection tools and research questionnaires, coordinating and conducting data collection
  • Screening and recruitment of study participants
  • Send out questionnaires, follow-up on the completion of questionnaires, screen questionnaires and call to invite eligible research participants to be part of one of the substudies
  • Processing and management of biosamples, including urine, serum, cord blood, and tracking storage locations of all lab samples
  • Assisting with data cleaning and data analysis
  • Properly managing research files and documents ensuring secure data management as outlined in the protocols. Maintaining detailed and organized project documentation (both electronic and physical files; includes storing and managing the files)
  • Training new research staff. Assisting with providing direction to administrative and research staff and students in the assignment of tasks and duties
  • Participating in the core research team meetings involving researchers, partners, and other research coordinators and research assistants
  • Writing newsletters and annual reports
  • Completing assigned and scheduled tasks under own initiative with limited direct supervision. Managing own time effectively and ensuring PIs are kept informed of activities and progress of work
  • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor, project leads, and with the campus community

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree required, MSc preferred in Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Public Health or related areas
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience of active involvement in research in an academic or clinical research setting, research institute or in an organization under the direction of a research scientist
  • Experience with quantitative data collection and analysis required
  • Familiarity with AHS systems (such as Connect Care) preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g. R, Stata, SAS) and online questionnaire software (e.g. Qualtrics, RedCap) is a strong asset
  • Tri Council Policy Statement (TCPS 2) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training is an asset
  • Ability to plan and carry out research and administrative activities within a team environment required
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience working with research ethics applications is an asset
  • Experience in professional writing, preparing reports and conducting literature reviews for the purposes of publications
  • Ability to work proactively and independently with broad directives and minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a time-sensitive environment
  • Open to learning and willing to accept new challenges and assignments
