The Administration Team in the Office of VP Research invites applications for a Program Manager. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 30 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Quantum City is creating a vibrant quantum economic and scientific hub based in Calgary, leveraging leading quantum science and technology programs and a burgeoning UCalgary innovation ecosystem to build a startup accelerator program.

Reporting to the Manager QAI Accelerator, the Program Manager, Quantum Accelerator will work closely with our program partner, the role's focus is to build a startup accelerator program in Calgary that supports quantum and quantum-adjacent technologies and solutions. The candidate will be responsible for developing the programming, operational processes, securing program facilitators and establishing a roster of coaches to support the participants. The candidate will also be involved in the scouting and selection of the startups participating in the program.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Develop and expand the Quantum City Accelerator Program and grow it in the direction of an Incubator Program and a program for scale-ups.
  • Helping to develop internal standards in Acceleration.
  • Conceptualizing, planning, implementing, and coordinating events with the team.
  • Supporting Startups & Team on investment topics.
  • StartUp scouting and pre-selection of international Quantum StartUps (or quantum adjacent).
  • Intensive coaching of StartUps together with our mentors.
  • Program delivery.
  • Program development.
  • Standard point of contact for Startups after they have been Accepted to the program.
  • Building up an Alumni Network of Startups and Quantum Founders.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, science, economics, or engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience working within the startup or entrepreneur ecosystem.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or advising startups or in an incubator/accelerator.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment is an asset.
  • Extensive experience in coaching and mentoring.
  • Proven understanding & knowledge of startup investments.
  • Established skills working in a small, dynamic team with proven personal effectiveness and productivity are required.
  • Ability to work independently to tight timelines, maintain confidentiality, and deal effectively with overlapping and changing deadlines is required.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively under pressure while exercising good judgment and discretion required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to build relationships to accomplish goals with diverse groups within and outside of the Quantum City is essential.
  • Potential for travel.
