Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Knowledge Mobilization Specialist. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Health Equity Hub within the O'Brien Institute for Public Health at the University of Calgary supports health equity scholars to translate research into social change, and to make improvements in service delivery.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Identifying key research findings of Health Equity Hub members that should be communicated to external stakeholders
  • Developing policy briefs, plain language summaries, infographics, media releases and social media campaigns to communicate members' research findings to external stakeholders
  • Coordinating meetings between members of the Health Equity Hub and municipal, provincial and federal government officials, representatives from healthcare systems (e.g., Alberta Health Services) and other relevant organizations to communicate research findings
  • Administering an annual knowledge mobilization competition for members of the Health Equity Hub
  • Developing and executing comprehensive knowledge mobilization programs that communicate members' research findings through multiple channels to increase the reach and impact of members' research
  • Planning and executing knowledge mobilization events to communicate findings from members' research (e.g., webinars, research seminars, workshops, deliberative dialogues)
  • Coordinating research seminars to train Health Equity Hub members in key knowledge mobilization strategies (e.g., writing op-eds, speaking to the media)

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in public policy, public health or a related field
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret research studies and their findings
  • Knowledge of public policy, public health, government and healthcare systems
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Creativity
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to develop policy briefs, research summaries, infographics, media releases and other knowledge mobilization documents to communicate research findings to external stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner
  • Ability to create and implement social media campaigns
  • Event planning skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Immediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
