The Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Faculty Development Support Specialist.
The role of the Office of Faculty Development (OFD) is to help the more than 500 full-time faculty members and more than 3000 clinically-appointed faculty members be successful in their academic roles. This position will support the delivery of high-quality, technology-driven faculty development programs. This role will involve expertise in website design, multimedia production, social media strategy, and emerging technologies to enhance the OFD's local, distributive, national and international reach. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring our programs are accessible, engaging, and optimized for both local and distributive audiences, with a focus on attracting faculty from around the world through cutting-edge digital formats.
They will be responsible for coordinating and working across the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM), the University of Calgary, and Alberta Health Services communication teams to technically support OFD programming.
As a member of the OFD team, this position reports to the Manager of the Office of Faculty Development. The role requires working closely with a multitude of internal and external stakeholders and may include some local travel.
A Valid Class 5 driver's license is required as there will be travel across sites.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Website Design and Maintenance:
- Collaborate with OFD team to update, maintain, and optimize the OFD website, ensuring an intuitive, mobile-friendly user experience
- Incorporate global accessibility features, ensuring compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards and multilingual support for international reach
- Video, Podcast, and Vodcast Production:
- With guidance from the Manager, OFD, lead the planning, recording, editing, and production of high-quality educational videos, podcasts, and vodcasts, tailored to the needs of faculty development
- Ensure content is optimized for multiple platforms and distributed globally, with multi-language and accessibility options and professional production standards
- Digital Marketing and SEO:
- Collaborate with Cumming School of Medicine and University of Calgary communications teams to develop and implement digital marketing strategies, including SEO, PPC, and email campaigns, to advertise OFD offerings locally, nationally and internationally
- With guidance from the Manager, OFD, oversee social media campaigns to increase engagement and visibility across platforms like Twitter/X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other global channels
- Online Learning and Interactive Content Creation:
- Support the creation of interactive e-learning modules using tools such as Articulate 360, H5P, or Adobe Captivate, integrating them into Learning Management Systems (LMS)
- Serves as an expert user of Drupal web platform, Yuja, and other UCalgary systems on behalf of OFD team
- Stay current with the latest e-learning trends, including AI-driven personalized learning and adaptive learning technologies
- Virtual Event and Webinar Management:
- Oversee the technical elements of large-scale, high-tech virtual events, including distributed webinars, virtual conferences, and hybrid events
- Leverage platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or specialized educational streaming services to ensure seamless delivery of content to a distributed audience
- Streaming and Broadcasting Technologies:
- Enable live streaming of faculty development sessions, lectures, and events, ensuring top-tier broadcast quality
- Utilize platforms like YouTube Live, Vimeo, or specialized educational platforms for distributive faculty engagement
- Digital Credentialing and Badging:
- In partnership with OFD team, develop digital credentialing systems, offering verified badges or blockchain-based certificates for faculty who complete development programs
- Track attendance and completion of offerings for continuing medical education (CME) credits
- Ensure these systems are integrated with global credentialing standards to appeal to national and international participants
- Data Analytics and Reporting:
- Utilize advanced analytics and data visualization tools to measure program performance, track engagement, and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement
- Under guidance from OFD manager, design data dashboards that track key performance indicators (KPIs) for both internal reporting and external promotion
- Innovation and Emerging Technologies:
- Explore, recommend, and implement innovative technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and AI-powered tools to enhance learning experiences
- Stay at the forefront of technological trends to offer innovative solutions for faculty development, integrating new tech into program offerings
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Design, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience in website design, multimedia production, and digital marketing
- Strong expertise in video production, podcast/vodcast editing, and social media design, particularly UCalgary programs
- Proficiency in learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning platforms
- Experience with global marketing strategies, SEO, and digital advertising
- Knowledge of advanced streaming technologies and virtual event platforms
- Familiarity with VR/AR technologies, AI-driven learning platforms, and data analytics tools
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong project management skills with ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
- Ongoing commitment to social justice is essential to serving our faculty members
- Experience with maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
- Experience working with culturally diverse stakeholders
- A Valid Class 5 driver's license is required
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience with digital credentialing platforms
