The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Office of the Provost & VP Academic is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Senior Specialist, Communications

The Senior Specialist, Communications develops and delivers communications, promotions, and advocacy strategies, plans, campaigns and programs for the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) that engage the University of Calgary's key communities, audiences, boost the awareness of the university, enhance public awareness of our institutional commitments to EDI, and deliver against the university's core strategic direction as well as against specific goals, objectives and targets. The Senior Specialist, Communications reports to the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President Research (EDI), with a dotted line to the Communications Manager responsible for overseeing the Community Services team within the Office of Advancement's Communications Services unit.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Strategically develop, execute, and lead the EDI Communication Plan;
  • Develop and integrate an OEDI communications plan;
  • Develop, execute, evaluate and optimize e-marketing campaigns;
  • Work collaboratively with the OEDI, colleagues, and vendors to plan, develop and publish communications and marketing materials for print, email, social media and web channels;
  • Develop and maintain successful and productive relationships with clients and colleagues within the OEDI portfolio;
  • Managing and implementing a range of communications as well as advertising campaigns, publications, programs, and other communications and advocacy tactics that address the goals and objectives related to our audiences. The candidate will incorporate and execute digital and social media communications; 
  • Building and maintaining E-marketing campaigns using Marketo;
  • Adapting branded design templates for print and digital products, planning, writing and building websites using Drupal 8 web system.
     

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in a responsible coordination position within the communications and marketing sector; leading complex projects in marketing and/or communications;
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree or recognized credential in communications and marketing, campaign management, project management, account management, or related field; a combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Knowledge of EDI, accessibility and human rights, best communications policies and practices, in combination with insights provided by research and lived experiences of inequities and/or other forms of discrimination;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in executive-level writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to include diverse perspectives and experiences, in order to build relationships and work effectively with diverse communities across a variety of settings;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with leaders and campus community members who are at different points in their EDI journey;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing high-impact communications and marketing plans and campaigns to meet goals and objectives;
  • Deep knowledge of latest digital communications and marketing and social media trends;
  • Solid understanding of communications and marketing, and analytical skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Well-developed leadership qualities and negotiation skills;
  • Proven exposure to and experience with the creative process and project management challenges;
  • Strategic thinker, with demonstrated ability in partnership-building;
  • Creative thinker and problem-solver who can think fast on their feet;
  • Well organized, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize functions on a daily basis and capable of simultaneously managing multiple responsibilities efficiently and effectively;
  • Results-oriented and independent, with demonstrated initiative in turning ideas into formalized projects;
  • Confident and poised with strong interpersonal skills, passionate about quality and able to deliver in a high-performance environment, with multiple projects, stakeholders and deadlines;
  • Experience working in a marcom or advertising agency is an asset;
  • Experience working with Marketo is an asset;
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications;
  • High-level of understanding of the university business systems.
