The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Position Title for approximately 24 months.

Reporting to the Haskayne School of Business Director of Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Advisor assists in the development of both long and short-term strategies to raise the profile of the school. The Advisor creates internal and external communications, which include print and digital materials as well as social media. The incumbent proactively promotes school events and the success stories of our students, faculty, staff and alumni. The Advisor is a proactive leader and makes decisions and/or recommendations which may have significant impact on the public profile of the Haskayne School of Business and the University.

The hours of work are normally 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. The incumbent is responsible for managing various projects and writing communication pieces across a broad range of focus areas and target audiences. This position requires the meeting of multiple, simultaneous deadlines throughout the year and requires management of competing interests with satisfactory outcomes for all stakeholders involved. 
 

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Effectively manages projects on time, on budget and aligned with Haskayne's strategic marketing and communication goals.
  • Effective multi-tasking skills are used to juggle and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Results oriented. Takes initiative to identify areas for improvement and potential solutions.
  • Special projects as assigned. 

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Develops high-quality, communication materials with timely, relevant, accurate and creative content.
  • Utilizes various communication tools comfortably and effectively. Targets content appropriately to the many different audiences.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in written formats.

COMMUNICATION/RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Proactively develops and maintains excellent relationships with team members, staff, suppliers, students and other target audiences as required.
  • In consultation with Haskayne units and other appropriate stakeholders, develops and implements an effective and focused communications plan with a variety of initiatives to promote and raise the profile of the School. Ultimately, the plan reflects institutional key messages and brand to support the University's strategic objectives.
  • Works in conjunction with Haskayne's Director of Marketing & Communications on the development and implementation of strategic, internal and external communication plans.
  • Develops and writes quality and timely communication materials.
  • Researches and writes news stories and submits to various university publications.
  • Builds and maintains excellent working relationships with stakeholders on and off campus.
  • Maintains presentation materials and communications displays throughout the building.
  • Liaises and collaborates with the Marketing & Communications team on related projects.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A related university degree is required. A minimum of three years of experience in the communications, public relations and/or journalism fields with an emphasis on creating, writing and editing internal/external communications is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, edit and proofread at an advanced level in the English language with impeccable accuracy in grammar, spelling and content verification is required.
  • Expertise in creating compelling communication pieces for a wide variety of internal and external audiences using multiple communication vehicles is required. Communications experience in a large complex organization is a strong asset.
  • Excellent research and interview skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze social media metrics.
  • Proficiency in writing full stories, converting written articles into various formats as well as expertise in copywriting for brochures and annual reports.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and ability to handle diverse communications assignments with tact, courtesy and discretion.
  • Basic videography and editing skills and ability to use digital SLR camera and multimedia communications (photographs, podcasts, social networking technologies) is an asset.
  • Basic graphic design and production skills are an asset.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary educational issues is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and decision making.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels, and with design, communications and printing services required.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
