VP Development and Alumni is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Senior Systems Development Analyst for approximately 3 months.

The Office of Development and Alumni exists for the mutual benefit of the University of Calgary and its stakeholders and coordinates donations of gifts to the University, as well as engagement with UCalgary alumni and the broader community.

Reporting to the Manager, Data Systems, the Senior Systems Development Analyst is responsible for supporting the development, maintenance and error-free operation of Development and Alumni's core business system applications that are used by more than 200 individuals across campus for the purpose of managing information and relationships with donors, alumni, and other key stakeholders. This position also ensures data and systems integrity and works with business users throughout Development and Alumni to gather and respond to highly technical requirements. The work done by the incumbent is very complex and requires significant in-depth knowledge and expertise, as it directly impacts the functionality and operations of  Development and Alumni's primary technologies.

The incumbent develops complex SDK customizations impacting the core integrity of these systems, leads data quality management, oversees the implementation of APIs, and develops ETL processes for the import and extraction of meaningful data. The Senior Systems Development Analyst liaises regularly with key stakeholders across the department, gathers business requirements, builds and implements solutions, and mentors more junior team members.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Work with key business and technical staff across Development and Alumni to gather complex business requirements and propose and develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Program advanced C# and other scripts to improve system effectiveness and user functionality.
  • Develop integrations between a variety of Development and Alumni technologies, including Blackbaud (BB) CRM, BB Information Systems, and Marketo, among others.
  • Work with data stewards to ensure access to information and the interpretation of data is accurate.
  • Provide advanced level support for technical problems.
  • Lead projects with multiple stakeholders and provide guidance/oversight to more junior Data Team staff.
  • Build and perform database and ETL tasks, as well as provide support to the Analytics & Reporting team.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain automated processes.
  • Guide Development and Alumni's technological infrastructure and use outside of UCalgary IT accountabilities. Ensure that application and system development follow proper University and departmental standards and procedures.
  • Identify needs and problematic areas and establish data maintenance query schedules and automation.
  • Create data quality and other reports in Power BI and/or SSRS.
  • Identify linkages and interdependencies within and between systems so that downstream effects of all changes are accounted for.
  • Analyze and resolve issues with current and planned systems for Development and Alumni and its stakeholders.
  • Identify and initiate opportunities to streamline operations and improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in IT or data with 5 or more years of advanced experience with relational databases and software development.
  • Additional certification in business intelligence and analytics is strongly desired.
  • Previous progressive experience using Blackbaud CRM is required, particularly within a University environment.
  • Business analysis experience/working with business users is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of relational database management concepts and experience with relational database management systems are required.
  • Very strong programming skills in C# or VB.Net and other current technologies are required, as is significant experience with software development and in designing, building, and implementing customizations in enterprise systems.
  • Experience with managing IT changes, release management, process mapping and software testing is preferred, including experience with Jira and ServiceNow platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and SQL Server suites, along with Power BI.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Teams is desirable.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential, with the ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in data and reports.
  • Knowledge of data management and data extraction's best practices, with experience in ETL processes (Extraction, Transform and Loading).
  • Experience in problem-solving and troubleshooting in a team environment.
  • Strong aptitude to understand new technologies and processes and to learn and use other tools as required.
  • Extensive experience supporting Blackbaud CRM in a University environment is critical for this role.
