Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Data Analyst. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Work closely with Principal Investigators to develop analytical plans and carry out those analyses
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with investigators and team members
  • Responsible for reporting on projects and producing final reports
  • Perform complex analyses within appropriate timelines
  • Conduct research and provide documentation for use in scholarly publications
  • Assume responsibility for data security, confidentiality, and data accuracy
  • Participate in an environment conducive to world-class development and scientific research
  • Participate and foster a culture of communication, collaboration, efficiency and creativity
  • Conduct literature review, surveys, data analysis and interpretation, for use in scholarly publications

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Required BSc or MSc in Data Science, Statistics or a related field
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of experience in a relevant research area
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of technical experience in statistics and data analysis
  • Ability to perform detailed design, documentation, and implementation of complex technological systems
  • Ability to provide technical support for other team members
  • Perform database management, data extraction, cleaning and complex statistical and machine learning analysis
  • Direct and demonstrable research experience in the subject matter of the research project is essential
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and application of related technical procedures
  • Solid experience with analyzing large administrative and electronic health databases such as hospital Discharge Abstract Data (DAD), Physician billing claims (PC), Ambulatory Care Classification System database (ACCS), and Alberta Health Registry data (HCIPR)
  • Expert working knowledge of statistical programming languages such as R and SAS
  • Proficiency with SQL queries to access and extract data from databases
  • Expertise with R, R Shiny, and Python
  • Strong statistical capability and critical thinking ability to develop advanced statistical methods to innovate health data science
  • Experience working in a health-related and research-related field
  • Work and research experience in the use of clinical data, administrative health data and/or electronic medical records is an asset
  • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, innovation, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet skills
