Marketing within Ancillary Services is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Specialist, Marketing.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, Ancillary Services, the Marketing Specialist is working from start to finish on items such as social media posts, copywriting and creation of marketing items including posters and sales assets, email marketing, communications, content calendar management and strategy, website edits and more. The Marketing Specialist roles requires adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced environment that has constant change.  This position involves writing copy related to a variety of mediums, but also requires directing students with content for social media within a guideline created by the Marketing Manager. The Marketing Specialist builds positive relationships within Ancillary's different units, particularly Residence and Bookstore, and works closely with stakeholders across Ancillary. The Marketing Specialist roles requires adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced environment that has constant change.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Copywriting, Editing, and Asset Creation:

  • Create assets in various forms such as social media posts, copywriting and creation of marketing items including posters and sales assets, email marketing, communications, content calendar management and strategy, website edits, and more.
  • Write, edit, and adapt copy for the aforementioned items.
  • Ensure copy is error-free and in-line with brand guidelines across all marketing channels.
  • Work with stakeholders across Ancillary Services to ensure that information is correct and kept up to date.
  • Adapt graphic design templates, adhering to brand guidelines.
  • There will be various ad-hoc Marketing activities such as helping organize photoshoots, assisting in gathering data for annual reports, preparing surveys for Ancillary units and more.

Social Media Planning and Creation

  • Work with different Ancillary units to create a carefully planned out content calendar for social media, including writing copy for social media posts.
  • Stay up to date with the cyclical nature of postsecondary to inform audiences of the right information at the right time, and use that knowledge to guide the social media content.
  • Follow social media trends and industry best practices to stay current.
  • Work with students and other stakeholders to create visual content for social media.
  • Create content that adheres to a social media guideline and carefully control content from others to ensure consistency.
  • Brainstorm and work with the Marketing Manager on new ideas and projects that would resonate and have an impact on social media.
  • Report on social media metrics.
  • Follow competitors and report to Ancillary with ideas based on said competitors.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business Administration or similar is required.
  • 3 or more years of experience with Marketing copywriting for websites, email marketing campaigns, sales assets such as decks/1-pagers, posters/leaflets and more.
  • Experience with managing and being responsible for social media content calendars, with content that adheres to a social media strategy/guideline.
  • Must have a passion for writing, be able to demonstrate a sharp eye for detail and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Familiar with adapting copy to differing audiences, tones of voice and type of channel.
  • Able to use basic graphic design tools such as Canva.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously using excellent project management skills.
  • Outstanding ability to think creatively, identify and resolve problems.
  • Able to change priorities quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An asset if experienced with post-secondary institutions and/or the student demographic.
  • An asset if experienced with or willing to learn basic Abode Creative Suite skills.
