Campus Security within VP Services is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Security Services Worker.

This position reports to the Supervisor, Security Patrol. The Security Services Worker will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The incumbent will promote and facilitate a safe and secure learning and living environment at the University of Calgary. The successful candidate will patrol university grounds and buildings to prevent and detect offences against persons and property, establish and foster partnerships within the campus community, and respond to all emergency and routine situations.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Act as a point of contact on behalf of the University Campus community.
  • Offer vehicle, foot and bike patrol for university buildings and grounds.
  • Successfully monitor CCTV cameras and operate the dispatch operations center.
  • Report on various tracking metrics, including but not limited to - Life safety, Simplex fire panel, Genetec, Dispatch log, Resolver, Alertus and the U of C Safety app.
  • Provide immediate response to all emergency calls on campus.
  • Respond to and assist on calls for general service, assistance of staff, faculty, students, and visitors.
  • Identify and respond to potential threats on campus. (Infrastructure emergencies, flood/fire ect)
  • Engage and collaborate with external emergency response agencies (Police, Fire, EMS)
  • Write reports of daily activities, property damage or theft, criminal offences, or any other irregularities
  • Contribute as a mentor for new employees and/or on specific training programs
  • Opportunity to participate in the Mountain Bike Security Unit
  • Participate in security initiatives and programs; Safe walk, security alerts, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
  • Provide specialized support and awareness training to other University departments as requested

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High school graduation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comprehensive written and spoken English
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Operators Licence
  • Be able to provide a clean criminal background check including a vulnerable sector clearance letter
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrates/Exemplifies strong ethical standards, reflecting trustworthiness, integrity and good judgement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous security or law enforcement experience
  • Post secondary education in a related discipline
  • Current level C CPR (including AED) and Standard First Aid Certificates. (Employer willing to train qualified candidates within the first 30 days of hire)
  • Security Services and Investigators Act (SSIA) license. (Employer willing to train qualified candidates withing the first 30 days of hire)
