Position Description: 
The Natural Sciences program in collaboration with the Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment, both within the Faculty of Science, invite applications for a Winter 2025 Term Sessional Instructor.

The successful candidate will have responsibilities for lecture instruction, assessments, maintenance and coordination of D2L website, teaching assistant supervision, and any other associated duties for this 3-unit course during the term.

Energy Science 427 - Principles of Solar Power
ESCI 427 is an introduction to the principles of solar energy production in its various forms, with a focus on photovoltaics. Includes an exploration of the physical principles that govern the generation of electricity from sunlight, the components and makeup of solar photovoltaic systems, as well as the integration of solar power into the electricity system. The course will also discuss and evaluate environmental, societal, and economic issues related to solar energy development.

Winter 2025 Term Dates: January 6, 2025 - April 30, 2025

Teaching Schedule: MWF 14:00 - 14:50. 

Delivery Mode:  All course components will be delivered in-person.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have a minimum of an MSc, with PhD preferred, in Energy Science or a closely related field relevant to the subject matter of the course.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience and knowledge of solar energy systems, including the fundamental scientific principles as well as relevant social, environmental, economic, and policy concerns.
  • Evidence of previous teaching experience and effectiveness at the post-secondary level is a strong asset, preferably in the course subject area.
  • Experience with the Desire 2 Learn (D2L) course management system, knowledge of best practices for assessments, and techniques for engaging students will be considered assets.
