The Department of Human Resources is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Manager, Projects and Strategic Initiatives.

The Manager, Projects and Strategic Initiatives reports to the AVP, Human Resources (HR) and is responsible for providing leadership and management of projects and strategic initiatives on behalf of Human Resources in alignment with our institutional strategy Ahead of Tomorrow. Given this role requires both a hands-on approach to project delivery and the capability to support other's delivery of outcomes, project management experience is critical for this role.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Project Management

  • Full-cycle project management and execution of institutional and HR initiatives.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams to completion, aligning efforts with the Ahead of Tomorrow strategy.
  • Build relationships with internal and external partners (HR leaders, university leaders, consultants) to ensure high-quality project outcomes.
  • Manage project budgets, risks, and timelines, ensuring projects are delivered on scope, time, and budget.
  • Regularly assess and optimize project management processes for efficiency.
  • Use data and analytics to inform decision-making and present progress to HR leadership.
  • Ensure standardization in project execution through consistent processes and methodologies.

Strategic Initiative Management 

  • Support Board and ELT deliverables, including preparing briefing notes, proposals, and presentations.
  • Oversee the creation and timely delivery of strategic planning documents.
  • Continuously monitor legal, regulatory, and collective agreement developments to remain an expert resource.
  • Implement best practices (Agile, Lean, Six Sigma) to enhance operational efficiency and drive improvement.
  • Align HR strategic initiatives with the Ahead of Tomorrow strategy.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and innovations, identifying opportunities for institutional advancement.
  • Act as a thought leader, driving forward-looking strategies and solutions within HR and the institution.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources or related field; graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior HR experience, particularly in large, complex unionized environments.
  • Strong knowledge of human rights and labor and employment legislation.
  • Project management expertise (PMP certification considered an asset).
  • Proven leadership and management experience.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and strategic leadership abilities.
  • Experience in change management (formal certification preferred).
  • Excellent business writing and presentation skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with exceptional interpersonal and influential skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and engage teams, fostering creativity, diversity, and innovation.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with HR Information Systems (i.e., PeopleSoft) is an asset.
  • Strong political and business acumen.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
